According to the data, immigration from these countries has already gone into reverse.

I was talking to a very well educated Bulgarian woman yesterday. She told me that ethnic Bulgarians have been having smaller families for a long time now, with the effect that the number of Bulgarians is no longer self sustaining.

This is causing major problems in Bulgaria, where the population is visibly shrinking and not just due to immigration. The average Bulgarian is now something like 40 years old.

the recent data showed the the number of Romanians (officially) WORKING in the Uk fell in the first quarter of 2014 although it increased on a 12 months basis.

I would suggest we can't really make many conclusions based on just limited data.

The UKIP twitter feed managed to draw such a conclusion for the 'A8' category which had numbers that showed an increase in employment in that category ... To their credit though, I have not seen them comment on the Romanian/Bulgarian category employment numbers in such a way. This is almost certainly not because the numbers were not particularity 'favourable' in terms of rhetoric though, and in fact because the organisation recognises that such a conclusion can't be drawn from employment data.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

I wasn't commenting upon UKIP but the government figures that are about 'working' people and not 'residency'.

whilst the quarterly figures are a bit of a laugh, they don't actually have any relevance for a debate about immigration.

I didn't say you were, I said thought I'd add that UKIP did make such conclusions.

The problem is that we don't yet have data for the period in which we were due to experience this massive influx, other than the first quarter.
There clearly wasn't a massive influx, and as you pointed out earlier, B) is the most likely answer: that those Romanians and Bulgarians who wanted to move to the UK were here already.

So in all likelihood, UKIP were wrong, we just need to wait until the end of the year when we have more solid figures to see how wrong. For now, we have to make do what we have got.

The fundamental problem is not whether Romulans, Bulgarians, or anyone else from the EU is coming in droves, it's the fact that they could, whether we need them or not.

The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

To be honest the level of net immigration has barely changed since the avalanche under Labour, does it really matter whether they are Romanian or Bulgarian?

The point was being made that those were a particularly vicious and terrible sort of migrant. Mostly criminal, they would flood the country with their kind, living in tent cities in Hyde Park while stealing, begging and fighting.

Then all of a sudden the flood never happened and all I've heard since is the sound of racist people backtracking and claiming that they were right all along that the flood had already happened.
