She's on 02. She didn't say what time she would be home, just that she wouldn't be late. She normally texts from the train when it gets to a certain point when it is my cue to leave the house to pick her up. It is a necessity for her to get in touch or we won't know when to give her a lift.

I would agree it will be worrying if she doesn't come home tonight, what time do you expect her?

I think rather than particularly independent its not uncommon for people renting in flat shares to just have mobiles now. DH lives in London the week and he just has a mobile there. I'd honestly find it odd if my parents had my friends phone numbers, I don't think you're daughter is particularly unusual for an 'independent" modern woman. The reason I am pointing these things put is because I am hoping that by seeing this is not that unusal it reassures you.

I think I was trying to point out she's not particularly a mummy's girl, just normal.

Hopefully you'll hear from her soon, her work not having contacted you is a good sign. She may well have lost her phone and so will just turn up at your house unannounced!

I totally understand why you're worried though. It's nothing to do with independence - it's routine. And when routines are broken without warning people worry! I only see or speak to my mum once a week, but it's so routine now that if I haven't called or turned up at her house by Saturday evening, I know for a fact that I'll get a call asking if I'm alright! She would be the same if I called her everyday and one day I didn't, it's just a routine we've gotten into and if it changes then we both get worried.

Mobiles have made us more anxious.

Me and loads of others were commuting into London at 15, we had no means of communication.

Here's a page from the website mentioned above for O2 from jinty271 - people in London postcodes are having problems today with the O2 network, have a read/scroll down

If you scroll down to the public comments, despite o2 site saying they have no issues, this is clearly not the case...

So it could well be the reason :)

ETA _ haha beat me to it Acidhouse - thanks !

Well, apart from coming on here I haven't actually done anything hysterical. I'm just waiting, feeling a bit sick. If she doesn't turn up later though, I think it will be a different matter.

Looking at their Twitter feed confirms lots of issues in London and the South East.

So probably a very reasonable explanation for the lack of contact.

When she does appear, you can give her a stern lesson in the use of landlines, then a big hug and an even bigger slice of Key Lime Pie :)
