  • A warm welcome back from me too:beer:. We missed you.

What a great result getting the laptop fixed for so little outlay:T. When my old laptop stopped working completely (not fan-related, I'd fixed that problem before with some DIY remedies I saw on YouTube that cost me nothing and worked perfectly) I took it in to the shop I bought it from secondhand. The man wanted £60 inspection/fault diagnosis fee, plus whatever it cost for repair or parts and time taken to fit them:eek:

The laptop is years old, really heavy and slow and I honestly didn't think the potential outlay was worth it considering how little a brand new one costs these days. I don't need anything fancy for the time being, it only needs to do the most basic things. Not really too bothered about built-in obsolescence with a cheapie either as I hope to buy a MacBook when I get enough money saved;)

Welcome back :hello: Good to see you :)

Oddly enough, we were talking about National Trust membership the other day on Greying Pilgrim's thread (I think). I did have it once when I was a student as I got a hefty discount, and signed up when we were on a 6 week cycling trip round the country so it made sense :D Now it's rather pointless as I'm in quite a NT desert here (sadly not an NT dessert :rotfl: ) and Mr Cheery isn't a fan of wandering round big posh houses so it's not something we can do together on holidays. Quite understand it being worth it for a few years though, especially if you can easily travel to a few :j

Hope your loft hatch is swift and easy to fix! :j

Thank you, lovely people :) I was pretty dubious about this lappie, tbh, but at £20 it seems worth it! It still has 4G of RAM, though the memory is only about 250G, but good enough. And its worked perfectly today :)

The NT is so location dependent, isn't it, Cheery - we'll make sure to use it to the max, and vary it with English Heritage membership :) for me personally, it doesn't have enough of the working class heritage - as you say, it's mostly big posh houses, which are interesting (especially for their walled veg gardens!) but they're not the only thing I'm interested in.

Back online just now to find a supplier for a probiotic starter - preferably not the milk, but the water. Got to hunt out a thread where I'm sure I've seen it.

Glad you are back with us KC , and a bargainous price to boot :T.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hey KC, glad you're back and £20 was a bargain!

We're fully paid up NT members - it's expensive, but it means there's usually a free day out to be had somewhere (even though we live in a bit of an NT desert (like CheeryDaff living in a NT dessert would be so much nicer!). DH isn't keen on the homes, but tolerates them for me but we love the countryside and the stately parkland!

Thanks both! It just makes sense to do it, doesn't it - admission prices I'd already have paid total £23.20, so thats a third of the annual ticket price regained already - not bad :)

I've just poisoned myself with adrenalin overload :o my spider phobia is truly gone, but my startle response is completely inappropriate :o the vacuum cleaner is a big help, because I don't have to kill - the latest target of my adrenalin is now pootling about in the copse of trees opposite my house :)

So, today, a tiny little ta-da list:
    - relocation as above :o
    - phoned "my" builder for a quote for building works, they'll ring back to make an appointment.
    - updated Ratesetter listing with their monthly update.
    - Asda delivery booked for tomorrow, at the £1 rate :j

    And I must:
    - submit energy reading, the annual deal has expired, must find a new one.
    - check my UK current account, the French one is fine.
    - carry on tidying, especially since I may have a builder traipsing through later today

Done. Am now £135 in debit  I'd noticed my monthly debits were way too small, and didn't include any gas - plus I've now had a week on the standard tariff after my deal expired. Time to get going on a new deal!

    - check my UK current account, the French one is fine.
Done. It's fine, though it will need more funding by the end of the month - £500 a month is going to regular savers, thats quite a lot :) in a good way :)

    - carry on tidying, especially since I may have a builder traipsing through later today
Sort of starting, while I get a snack ready, I need sustenance!

Can't keep up - that is a pretty impressive list for just past 11 on a Monday morning! Snack well deserved I'd say!

Thanks for the reminder on the energy stuff. I have had loads of estimateds and am pretty sure am not on a great tariff so I must sort that out this week.

    Thanks :o I got up at 6.45, which was a lay-in for me :o I don't sleep well.

I had a to-do list for Monday morning, I studiously ignored this stuff till today, after getting my lappie back on Saturday. Doing finance admin once a week, or once a fortnight when it calms down, seems to work. I've just done the Energy Club comparison - £100 savings and £30 cashback for t/f to Scottish Power, and I could give accurate useage figures (sort of) because of the graphs of useage on the previous lot's website. Of course that "cheaper than" figure is almost exactly what the previous lot say I owe them - but you never know :D

Am off to another Nat Trust place on Weds with sister, if my health holds up, I'm struggling with a sore throat. Just got tidying now, till the builder arranges to come. Cuppa tea first.

I'm with Scottish Power, KC and have had absolutely no issues with the poor customer service that gave them such poor reviews on various comparison sites. They've been exemplary whenever I had to contact them but compared to our previous supplier, nPower, that's not saying much:rotfl:

What I particularly like about SP is being able to input accurate readings online myself. Never any problems with estimates:T.

I hope your sore throat is better very soon. Here's something hot and soothing to help the process along.:coffee:. Mine is a bit irritated at the moment and I've an annoying though sporadic tickly cough whenever I talk. OH says the best remedy for that is to say nothing:rotfl:. As if;)
