How can anyone pack in advance ?? (scratches head). I mean don't you use the stuff you take ???
Seriously this has always baffled me.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

Might pick your brains about the Amazon book thing - my Mum is currently writing a book (long story - but it's a follow up to couple my Dad wrote years ago) and I was wondering about self publishing - probably won't be for a while, but if I can come back to you that would be great.
Absolutely! I couldn't give you a "click this and then do that" but I'd do whatever I could. It's really about writing what you want, finding the right categories according to *them*, formatting according to their instructions, finding a cover picture and title that you like, and parallel with all of that, thinking about publicising :)

With you on the decluttering chaos - when I was in the middle of it, I found it got worse before it got better. But the end result was most definitely worth it.

I also agree about paper - it gives me a lot of enjoyment, putting a pile of paper in the recycling box. Even though I make every effort to keep it down, it builds up again very quickly, if I'm not careful
It's astonishing, isn't it ... it's good in that each file of paper represents an asset (an ISA, bond, a holiday journal, whatever) but it really needs watching :)
I try to get a packing list started a few weeks before I go away - it's my worst nightmare, to be packing at the last minute!
I didn't used to get it ready as far in advance as this, but I need to do it now :p

:D I have enough knickers not to need to use them all at once :rotfl: I don't use my camera lead very much, I have two combs, I have a fresh toothbrush ready so I'm taking that not the one I'm currently using, I don't wear my posh jewellery every day :rotfl: it goes like that.

Watty, do you really have no spare capacity at all, to be able to pack a bit in advance? That's what I call *really* minimalist!

Then all the stuff you've got is useful :j Truthfully, my stuff goes out in stages - to a bag, to the overburdened single bed in the office, etc, I don't decide in one go. I always thought I'd always keep these letters - one whiff of them and I'm happy to see the back of them, though :p I always thought I'd keep the postcards I bought when I travelled, but I've just realised that they're a stash, and I never wanted to keep them on display, just stashed - and I do that within my computer these days, I've done that for years. So thats where I'll put *them* too. None of that is *useful* - I'm seeing to my junk, my "toot", as my Sarf London boss used to call it :D

I'm doing more of that today too - chopping back some grass that got a bit enthusiastic, and discovering that I can chop back recent growth on the stupid box hedge with the grass shears :j:j:j which speeds up the process by about 400% :j

My advance packing consists of throwing passports and sun lotion into a suitcase. I then write very detailed lists for each person (excluding DD - she does her own) and pack the night before - or sometimes the morning of the holiday..... :D

No way am I minimalist. I just seem to need to take what I am using! I could put spare undies in but then I'd just forget what I packed and have to fish it all out again.

My mothers advice was to pack a clean pair of knickers and a credit card. She says that is all one needs :)

If I pack in stages I am liable to forget things. I might chuck the odd thing in there. e.g. if I think a part used bottle of shampoo has the right quantity to last the holiday and then get binned, but all comes out and gets packed in one go.

Mr GG managed to forget his shorts one year. And if left unsupervised is liable to pack one pair of socks and pants or 15 - feast or famine :rotfl:.

I must say now I pack with everything folded it's a real pleasure, though I'm liable to go overweight on the case as you can get so much more in .
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I'm with GG about the half empty shampoo bottle!

I've got to get ahead with our 'packing' - this will consist of getting clothes out, look at them, see if anything needs washing.

DH will pack the day before - he's got the day off - but I really need to see if there is anything I need and get that.

Once the washing is done I can pile it up in the spare room ready for ironing a couple of days before we go. This is a new strategy now we have some room in the new house.

Good luck with getting it sorted.
