Right, that's the concensus - I'll go for it - my feet will have a chance to breathe, I can whip the bling off if it becomes apparent that its wildly inappropriate
Office still have my size, what's not to like ...
We've finally had some rain here - I was seriously starting to wonder about watering the garlicand it's so, so beautiful right now :j
No huge plans here today, of course - tho I might have to cook something that has chocolate in, even the frugal brownies will do :j
I'm doing a little bit of work - scanning while I faff about on the laptop doing other things, and the washing machine is also on ... but that won't be all day, I'll relax later on. It's Easter, y'know :j2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Mmm, chocolate brownies :j :j And also yay to relaxing, and buying wedding shoes :j :j Sunshine has finally arrived here today too, and it's GLORIOUS :j Have a good one!0

North Berwick is lovely, although we found the 'locals' to be a bit on the shovey side! We stayed at the Nether Abbey hotel, which is honestly one of the nicest places I've ever had the pleasure to stay, such friendly and attentive staff.
I would love to read a book about garlic - did it ever get finished?
Ps. How did you retirement scenario planning go? Any closer to 'the number'?0 -
Thanks Cheery, will do :j
Ed, shovey? Oo-er ... we'll be a bit along the coast. Just went onto streetview - it looks lovely! We have a mob booking at some hotel - basic but good enough, sort of thing. I doubt we'll be in North Berwick much, just passing through. Sigh ... I wish this virus would booger off.
The garlic book - no, haven't been able to work on it since, I've been too illagain, virus needs to booger off, and I need to stop working. My sister could have met up today, but I can't cope with a social visit
Retirement - same. I have plenty of plans that could make money, but not the energy to implement themI should wipe my sig and think again, to be honest.
Been thinking about the actual pension funds - I think I could do worse than put them all into cash funds *now* so that if a crash comes, it doesn't wipe me out, that would be pretty serious.
Because I'm doing so little (because I'm so ill) even with the pitiful amount I'm earning (well below taxable income) I'm still putting money into my savings account, which surprises me. I'll do some research over this weekend on annuity vs drawdown, and also see if I should just bung a couple of grand to the pension, since even if you don't pay tax you're entitled to do that.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Not 'beat you up' shovey. More 'we're old people so will walk three abreast down the pavement and you oiks can just walk in the damn gutter OK?' Shovey0

Ah! Thanks Ed! Round here, it's electric wheelchair users of all ages who do that, unfortunately - they go really fast, and it's quite dangerous, to be honest.
Or joggers. They do that too.
Made myself get to the garden, faffed about here and there, even started to clean the patio chairs, one of which is disgusting ...
And yes - thanks to your comment, I looked at the garlic book againwow, the need to wait to edit what you've written is *really* important. Flows much better already, but there's a fair bit left to write: medical, planting, care, harvesting, preservation, recipes, industrial production, folklore and rumours. In other words, I've done the layout and the introduction
drat!

Sounds just like a cruise ship!:rotfl:
I like those shoes, KC. I rarely wear heels, but I'd be happy with those, as they look as if they'd stay on my feetEarly retired - 18th December 2014
If your dreams don't scare you, they're not big enough0 -
That's good to hear (about the shoes!) Goldie
thanks

Morning! I've been doing a bit of scanning and finding free pdfs so I can chuck reference books away ... completely forgot I meant to check about a bit of money into my pension fund, got to be done quickly or not at all, because I send it to the agent and then on to the pension company. Ooh, the company will take online payments.
Okay, here we go, from the Money Advice Service: https://www.moneyadviceservice.org.uk/en/articles/tax-relief-on-pension-contributions
"If you are not earning enough to pay Income Tax, you can still receive tax relief on pension contributions up to a maximum of £3,600 a year or 100% of earnings, whichever is greater, subject to your annual allowance. For example if you have relevant income below £3,600, the maximum you can pay in is £2,880 and the government will top up your contribution to make it £3,600."
So I can send them £2880 maximum, and get tax relief on all that. Erm, which won't matter because I don't pay tax, but at least I know its legal and accepted etc etc.
Trying to think it through. Last year, I made a pension payment at about this time - the pension company counted it as the tax year of 2014-15, but didn't cash it until the *present* tax year, so HMRC count it as being paid *this* year. Hmm. I'll have to talk to the firm on Tuesday ... Ed, do you have any knowledge about this grey area between tax years? Or anyone else?2023: the year I get to buy a car0
