Oh my! Not to worry, cheery chat is all I need, and it generally is on here :)

I'm forcing myself to ignore the awful admin-ness, empathising with Katniss Everdeen instead. A client has cancelled (yay for me, more free time) (bad for the client, lurgified) so just 2 hours work today.

    So, the list:
    - use *paper* to sort out train departures and arrivals. The length of the trip is another thing thats got me panicking - leaving the house at 9.30, and not getting to the hotel till close on 6 - I'm not sure my health will take that :(
    - anyway, phone my mum with the results
    - email sister and niece with the results too.
    - ignore issue with yet another family member.
    - email client about work stuff
    - publish one blog post
    - publish another blog post.
    - put collected rubbish in bin.
    - put out the washing on the line, its nearly finished.

Okay, I can do that lot. Breaking things down into smallest constituent parts always helps. Then, if the planet allows me any more time in the day:
    - avatar for the other online persona is needed.
    - online Asda order.
    - get quotes from Hunger Games books for Buttercup The Wonder Cat.

The list did not go well! Truth to tell, I don't care, as long as I don't get ill.

    NONE OF THIS:
    - use *paper* to sort out train departures and arrivals. The length of the trip is another thing thats got me panicking - leaving the house at 9.30, and not getting to the hotel till close on 6 - I'm not sure my health will take that :(
    - anyway, phone my mum with the results
    - email sister and niece with the results too.

    - online Asda order.
    - get quotes from Hunger Games books for Buttercup The Wonder Cat.

    - ignore issue with yet another family member.
Yes! After quick consult with my sister, I can write a brief "yes thats great" and its all sorted.

    - email client about work stuff
Yes, that was easy too, just admin.

    - publish one blog post
I cheated, and republished one on Breakfast at Tiffany's :)

    - put out the washing on the line, its nearly finished.
Yes! And brought it in again to drape over radiators to finish off :)

There was actual paid work in the middle of all that, so I don't feel too badly about it. Taking the evening off tonight, hope everyone has a good one.

Thanks beanie. The evening wasn't quite as relaxed as it could have been: on our phone schedule, it's my sister's turn to phone our mum, and she always does that at 8.30pm on Mondays. No answer. Our options were:
    - to do nothing, which might mean her lying in a broken heap at the bottom of the stairs :(
    - ring our brother who lives an hour's drive away, who travels 3 days a week with his job, and his wife might therefore be at her dad's, where we don't have phone numbers.
    - ring a relative who's created huge problems in the past, but only lives a mile away from mum.

We chose my brother, and he wasn't away. And just as he was setting off, my mum answered the phone - she'd fallen asleep watching tv

 It does make you think. She'd never wear one of those Alert buttons, but we need to update phone numbers. There's a lovely lady at her patchwork group who'd give us her phone number, I'm sure, and she's a GP to boot.

All of that was about ten phone calls in all, you just never quite know what's going to get thrown at you. But she's safe, she's well, and today we carry on with the plans for travelling to the Edinburgh wedding in May :)

Glad mum's ok. Such a worry. Does she have neighbours you could get numbers for and use in an emergency? Is it worth popping round and chatting them up?
Mr Watty's dad's neighbours have been marvellous for this, even to the point of calling us when they are worried about him.
If you explained you will only call them in an emergency they might be happy to help. I know I would give my number out and let you call me if mum was a few doors away - if all you wanted me to do was pop there and knock on door and say are you ok your daughter is ringing? And not take any more responsibility than that.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Thats interesting. Some new people moved in recently who offered help, actually - I wonder?

It wouldn't be me setting this up, unfortunately - I haven't been strong enough to travel there for about 18 months :( and I'm missing out on her 90th birthday celebrations as well, this weekend :( But its certainly another possibility, very local, thanks for that Watty.

I've been a bit derailed this morning :o I *have* checked rail connections for the end May, but Ancestry are offering free access to Irish records, today only....

Currently looking at 1848, the height of the Famine :( very few births, loads of deaths, and the format of the registers is much more basic than what comes before in 1843, or afterwards in 1852. And this is Dublin, the capital. Even there. It was a bit shocking to see it in the very format of the registers.

Still, "breaking through, travelling on" is the diary, and thats certainly what this ancestor did. Born in Ireland, lived in Liverpool, had a skilled trade, emigrated to New York :) he was quite a bloke :j
