Ooh, and an update from a pension-type fund - same sort of money has come in from there :) so taking all 3 into account, I'm up by about £1600 :)

Plus, I've just applied for my first job on elance **faints** only two other applications, and they're both newcomers as well - might stand a chance!

    And it's stopped raining!

ETA - bit of a weird one. I'm listing a few things on amazzzon - and if I press their button that says "match best price" I get loads more money in my hot little hands than if I charge exactly the same and do a DIY version - £3.54 as opposed to £1.39. Is it a glitch, do peeps know? Postage calculated on the Royal Mail site, by the way, is £1.70 or so, so not worth doing if its the smaller amount. I'm going to get (another) cuppa tea and check out on here.

Thanks firegirl! I didn't get it - I only wanted to apply for one at a time, till I got my feet under the table, so it's off to try again today. It was interesting to read the profile of the one that got it - if I was the client, I'd have picked her too :D it was really well targetted.

So, elance again today, focussed. Then I have some paperwork to do for an interview this afternoon, unrelated to work. A bit of weeding, a bit of writing for my own stuff - ooh, I mentioned to slowlyfading I'd do follow up on followers and other blogs, that'd be a good'un to do.

I did quite a bit of listing yesterday, on ebay and amazzzon, I've got more. Things to sell are getting put in one place too, which is nice :D

Elance application done, paperwork done, cup of tea in hand. And good heavens, some of the editors etc on elance are the people that I've bookmarked to *learn* about editing. This is going to take some time. I won't focus on it on here any more, it's just one more on the to-do list.

Plus, I think the Post Office is taking a leaf out of Tim Ferriss' book, in that I only seem to be getting post delivered maybe 3 days a week - but when I do, I have 4 - 6 items. Unlikely that thats *always* the case. I wonder if they're secretly breaking their charter about daily deliveries? And if they're doing it here, in the crowded south of England, I wonder how long it will be before they *openly* break it in rural parts? Hmmm.

  • Sorry to hear about possible Royal Mail failings in your area, KC.

Out here 'in the sticks' of eastern England, a great deal further north than you we get post every single day except Sunday. Well, maybe not every day for us personally but the postman is to be seen delivering in the village every day. By 'village' I really mean 'hamlet', just several strung-out dwellings and lanes off with the odd place at the end. The road is a 'C' category (single lane in places), and we're just over 3 miles from a 'real' road. No businesses (except for a few tiny farms) or anything to make the trip worth their while. Just residential mail.

I recently received a letter posted 1st class at teatime the previous day from the Outer Hebrides! I even wrote to Royal Mail to compliment them on their superb service. They sent me some commemorative stamps as a 'thank you':T. I've posted birthday cards (1st class) from out tiny little village postbox and been thanked the very next day by recipients in various far-flung parts of UK.

I'm a staunch supporter of Royal Mail, in my experience they are brilliant:j but, like all big organisations, quality will vary from one local area to another. Sounds as if your one is a bit lax:eek:

    That sounds brilliant, CBC!

Our local postie is also brilliant, to be fair - I trust him absolutely, and like many other regular posties, I see him **running* between the houses - their job is almost impossible these days :(

But the ones who fill in when the regulars take time off ... oh dear. They leave parcels in some very odd places, and either don't write a card, or write illegibly, or worse. The last one, last Saturday, was pretty ingenious, to be fair: my replacement solar kettle arrived, and when I first arrived home, I thought I'd been robbed - my recycling wheely bin was pushed up against the side door that goes through to the back garden _pale_ its jammed shut, because its broken :o but the replacement postie had put the kettle in there *and* noted it in legible writing on the card, which he *had* put through my door :rotfl:

The facts that they asked me what I wanted done with parcels, and that I told them, and that no one ever does it, well, I've just let those facts go now :p dim and distant memory!

Good service from your posties there cbc!

Our regular is grand and we see him every day pretty much. Non regulars get confused - we are (confusingly) the end of a terrace - the rest of which counts as a different road. Next door but one is the same house NUMBER as us ( but the other road) and it's not a dead low number either - not surr what they thought they'd do with the other(nonexisting) numbers as there's nowhere to put more houses in the middle of a terrace!

Understandably we often get their post and takeaways :rotfl: although I'm never impressed when we get our post AND theirs on the same day - quite clearly that's wrong!

Looking forward to hearing how elance works out for you :)
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Morning! Thank you Watty, the second elance application job still hasn't been awarded. I faffed about with it a lot more, put in a "milestone" - I'll do this bit by such and such a date, the rest of it by this other date. We'll see - there are 30 other applicants! So probably not. Am exhausted today, after the meeting I had yesterday - trying to sort out the reason for my exhaustion and tiredness, and it was really tiring in itself, tho really good. Glad I didn't have to walk home in the hail that was falling 30 mins previously!

My big chunk of work happens today, and for the rest of this morning I'll be cleaning the floors of my stately home :) as they're completely filthy :D

Just had bad news about a very dear online friend in New York - her eyesight is so bad she's had to close her website, though she can still do phone work :( good news is her previous career was really well paid, so she gets top whack disability benefits. You just don't know ...

What a shame for your friend KC! :( Glad she can still do telephone work. But indeed, you never know what's round the corner...

Fingers crossed for the elance job! :j
