Thanks Tilly! Just a quick one, as I was out at lunchtime.
RT - yes, that kind of activity can show you all sorts of gaps, can't it! Mind you, moving's stressful/tiring, there's no doubt about it ...2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
KC - a quick appliance question if you don't mind...
When the nice Arg0s man brought your new dishwasher did he attach it as well?
I'm getting very confused with all the delivery options on their web-site - there will be nothing for him to take away, but I'd be most pleased if he'd install it!
BTW - was your solar kettle issue resolved after the complaint you wrote? :mad:grrrr to cheap knock-offs the whole idea of free boiled water was really quite exciting!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! (24 OCT 2016)(With heartfelt thanks to those who have gone before us & their indubitable generosity.)...and now I have a mortgage! (23 AUG 2021)New projection - 14 YEARS 10 MONTHS LEFT OF 20 YEARS (reduced by 15 mths)Psst...I may have started a diary!0 -
I thought of you earlier KC as I was poking around Elance (after all my talk of side incomes...) and spotted someone wanting a book writing about genealogy :j I always wonder how these things work - does the person who paid for it then claim it's 'their' book? I imagine I'd feel rather annoyed if that was the case!
Not made it to vote yet (but I will!) - we've had our neighbour's dog all day0 -

We'll see. I do indeed sense a ripoff merchant.

Frankly, I think the people who are offering jobs like that are, um, lets say, they're the losers - some of the money isn't bad for a book like that, US $500 is a regular amount. You couldn't make that in any other way about genealogy, as an outsider (I consider that I'm an outsider in that world - I'm an amateur, absolutely). I wouldn't need to do *huge* amounts of research, write a lot of it from examples I already know, and then get paid $500? No problem! Looks like I can use it as an example of *my* work on elance, if I write that sort of thing - knowing what my current little book is earning on Amazon, and knowing just how many books there are about genealogy, I'd be fine with itNot made it to vote yet (but I will!) - we've had our neighbour's dog all dayAwww ...
Hope you got out there - I saw the result and thought of you.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Ug, I am *so* tired today ... didn't really get much sleep after 3.30am, and I'm supposed to be going to London tomorrow - its an experiment to see if I can cope with it, and I'll be off to my youngest nephew's pad
if I can hack it. Its train/bus not "chauffered in a car" which is why I'm dubious ...
I don't think I can do any big projects today - it's a case of little bits here and there, as I can (and heaven knows, there's enough little bits of tidying that need doing!). There's the verification thing some time after 4, and I can mooch about elance and learn more about it. A few listings, a load in the washing machine, that sort of thing.
I'd also like to arrange to win the million pound premium bond next month. Thanks awfully.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
KC - what a faff the kettle has become - sigh - let's hope that you can raise a case with bay of e and just get your money refunded!
Appliances... have now realized that each appliance is listed 3 times, each time with different options...yeah - I can now see there is one with installation - nothing for them to take away - we just have a gap where the machines need to be installed!
You'd be proud of OH - in the middle of all the move confuzzlement he remembered we needed to vote and made sure we got there! (I'm usually the one who does the nagging!;))
OH & the nice young men who were running the polling station had a good chuckle over my indignation at the old boys sitting outside the door asking for card numbers - I mean really - is that not infringing on my democratic rights? I should not feel harrased while trying to pick from the lesser of the evils!!!!;)
...and then to top it all off they wanted to know who I'd voted for:mad: - sigh - is there no privacy left in the world?!?:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Today it all seems amusing but yesterday I was really worked up! My quest for a state of zen really took a beating!:D Voting should not be so stressful!4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! RT! They're from the political parties, that lot outside, and you have no obligation whatsoever to share information with them! I just said no and walked determinedly past them - last time, I tried to stop and be polite, and one of them actually took hold of my voter's registration card, she hadn't realised she was doing it, and stopped when I protested. They've no idea, some of them!
Plus, if the aliens took overthey *could* check how you voted - I struggled with it for a few years, and decided voting was too important not to do it, but there's ways and means of identifying you - numbers, punched into the fabric of the paper, usually. Its not all its cracked up to be, representative democracy....
But I *am* proud of your OH! Lots of 19th and early 20th century history is about winning the right to vote - and although its partly symbolic these days, its a really important part of everything else, things would be an awful lot worse without it.
In matters of mere global importance, something loud and buzzing has fallen down my chimney, and I can't see where it is
And txxte spxrt have told me I have to ring their freefone number to sort out the login. Ah well.
I'm getting nothing done really fast today ...2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
It's not a day for doing things fast today KC! Not in my neck of the woods either
Hope your buzzy thing is just a drowsy wasp that finds its way back out again x
Good point with the geneaology stuff on elance, hadn't thought of that! I suppose because writing and intellectual copyright (if you want to call it that) and having your name on things is such an important part of my job, it seemed odd to *not* have your name on something you'd written. But you're right, it's a different set of values - to actually be *paid* for something is also pretty useful, and if you can use it as an example of your work, then great! :j I'll have another proper look at some point0 -
I see what you mean, Cheery - I tell you what you might find interesting if you go there again. Look at the bit under the "Hire" button, select search freelancers, select Writing and Translation, then shuffle down a bit and select the country, UK. There's a lot of Cambridge graduates on there who've made sizeable amounts of money. And whatever you write can be used in your portfolio, no problem, you're not expected to pretend you haven't written it when touting for other work, doesn't seem so, anyway.
I have to say, I think the editing etc is what I'll go for first, get my feet wet, then the ebook market - I've got an idea for my *own* ebook, and
I know more about marketing now too.
Got my portfolio together - a bit from the kindle book, a bit from a fan magazine article that I wrote, and part of a dooyoo travel review ... of such cobbled-together toot is life made
I had my Verification call - and my hair's all fuzzy from just washing it, argh! And I was balancing my laptop on one arm running up from the kitchen with it, because I was hungry :rotfl:

The ones outside are, as KC said, from the parties. They're usually really only interested in you if you've pledged your allegiance - the details are fed back to each candidate's local 'command centre' and cross referenced to those who said they'd vote for them. Any who said they'd vote but haven't are 'knocked up' - literally someone will go around and knock on the door and remind them of the importance of voting and perhaps offer a lift if needed. This may happen several times - I remember 'knocking up' one household 3 times  before they went off just before the polling station closed. Therefore if you've not pledged your allegiance anywhere then it matters not a jot if they don't have your details
The ones on the way out - well, the exit polls are quite interesting, imo - but can never tell a full story even if everyone *did* say, because of postals
