Does not look like you are on ADSL max to me! Where have you got this 6.5Mb from?
Strangely it's now a lot faster to browse webpages after I restarted the PC and rebooted the router. However a speed test indicates no significant change in line speed.
When I access the router config screen that also seems a lot slow from this supposedly fast vista pc, than from a wireless connectionBlackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.

So what are your router line sync stats? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

How far are you away from your exchange?
It seems like your internal wiring is fine.. so its either a line fault or line attenuation. Then again if the website is saying you should receive that, that would hint at a line fault![FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Do you get this speed at all times during the day and evening? Or just during working hours?
Don't forget that what your line says it's max ability is (ie BT might tell you 6mB is merely what theoretically you can acchieve IF there is no competition for that bandwidth and the lines outside the house, inside the house, firewall and so on and on and on are all running at no interference
Failing that call AOL and ask them to check your line profile settings. They should have several different setting options for your line profile. The faster the more unstable, the slower the more stable and less likely you are to loose any connection.
However... 1Mb connections shouldn't cause anything to be AS slow as you are describing with pages no loading... So I would recommend a full virus scan using one of the online scan tools. It's not impossible that something is hiding and using your bandwidth to transmit to/from botnets...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I'm only 683m from my local exchange, hence the expected high speed.Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.

Ohhhh dear, maybe I'll go for quick nap! I had completely forgotten about that thread :rotfl:
Hmm, so line stats say 2MB, speed test says 1MB, AOL say much faster at 6-8MB, this is going to be an interesting phone call :wall:Blackadder: Baldrick, I have a very, very, very cunning plan.
