  • Morning

What a busy & tasty sounding weekend you have had! Good idea to get it all out the way before you start your healthy eating plan! ;)

I'm glad you have decided to stay out of things with regard to your neighbour. As you said, helping out will cover up what help she needs so good on you.

    Have a good day :) x

Thanks x. Let us hope that April is a great one for us merry band of DFW's.

Yesterday, my food plan happened but not the exercise or ebaying, as there was an event at the school that I went along to. DS has got his report through, and it is Parent's Evening tonight, but I don't think there will be any surprises. His report is excellent and we have got his timetable sorted for next year. A little proud mummy moment now ..... Here is a few lines from his Physics report, which is quite representative.

" .... Is an exemplary Physics student - a nicer, more polite pupil you could not hope to meet. He is a pleasure to teach. ..... has made excellent progress with the Physics course, achieving an "A" pass (87%) in the assessment. ....... Work is of a very high standard."

What is most heart warming about all this, is that we did not think that he would be able to attend main stream school, when he was younger, as he had a severe audio processing disorder, which meant that he had real difficulty with receptive and expressive speech, and was severely dyslexic.

I taught him from home for a year, using specialised systems, and then he slotted back into a small, local primary school, who were really great with him, and gave him a lot of one to one support.

Now, you would not know that he ever had any difficulties. He loves school too, which I am really pleased about, and he wants to be an Architect.

    Today I will:-

    1. Do two mystery shops - £17.99
    2. Phone up H***fax, as there has been some issues with DD's on the switching.
    3. Fast walk for 60 mins

    Food:-
Weetabix/skimmed milk and 3 brazil nuts
HM vegetable soup and pitta bread
    HM Fish pie and vegetables.

  • That's a brilliant report! You have every right to be proud of both yourself and your son. It just shows how much you can get out of a child if you just put the effort in. :) x

    Hi there,

So much for no surprises at the parents evening! It turns out that 9 teachers are being made surplus to requirements, due to budget mismanagement, and two of them are DS favourite teachers, who are really passionate about their subjects, and great role models. The tension was palpable.

The school have reneged on their agreement, with us, and I typed up a letter this morning expressing my concerns and asking for another meeting to address them, before taking the matter up with Alex Salmond and the Education Authority. I will not hesitate to do this now, if I feel we are being brick walled, not only for DS but for all the other children who are being adversely affected. The catalogue of errors in the installation of this new Scottish Curriculum For Excellence in DS 's school is appalling.

I am not going to let this throw me off course though. Even in the worse case scenario, we can pay privately for DS to get to finish the courses, but I will professionally fight my corner in the mean time, to ensure that this is only a remote possibility.

Back to money saving business. I will look back on my key items, over the last few days, and finish any that I have overlooked and focus again on my diet and fitness plan. This lady is not for turning.

    TTFN xx.

  • Hi there wise friends in the box. Moral dilemma number three for the week!

The headmaster has arranged for DH and I to see him at the school tomorrow at 3.30 pm, meanwhile DS has come back from school and has said that he does not want to make any waves and that following a little bit of pressure from the Business Manager, he just wants to go along with whatever the school can resource.

What would you do in this situation? As far as I can see the other parents all seem to be backing down.

    Any opinions welcome xx.

I would say it's really up to your son, and if that's what he wants then go with it. I guess he's the one who has to actually go to the school, so he doesn't want to cause any trouble there.

    Emz xx
  • Thanks again Emzilla, your response is really appreciated. I am thinking along the same lines as you.

I have spoken to DH, and he is going to have a loving chat with DS tonight, and he says that if he feels that DS has been intimidated by the BM then that is another issue that he is going to add to the list.

I have decided to leave this one for DH and DS to work out between them and support their decision about the way forward. DH very rarely gets involved with DS's schooling, that has always been my domain, but he feels extremely strongly about what has been happening, so I will pass this over to him to resolve, and refocus my efforts on April's plans.

    This is great !!!

  • i'd kinda be in the other camp. i don't think that choices made now should be informed by limitations being imposed that you were told would not happen. at the same time, you know your own child. one of mine would just have wanted to go with the flow while the other would not have been happy. i'd probably grill him a bit to see if he has fully considered the longer term consequences and go from there

  • Hi INOD, yes that has been DH's approach and he has decided that DS was intimidated and they have agreed that we will continue to fight DS's corner, as the decisions being made will have a massive impact on DS's education.

DH is quite prepared to take this straight to the Education Minister, but we will start by seeing what the Headmaster says tomorrow. DH has a very logical mind and a professional background and will not be fobbed off once he has got the bit between his teeth, it just takes quite a lot to get him to this stage x.
