Taplady - Here's hoping that it doesn't reach your mums house. Has she moved everything as high as she can?

Morning all, special hugs to N9eav and to Crazychik, but thoughts are with everyone who needs them today, including all those mopping up after yesterdays rush of water xx

I am fully intending to have a few short but manic blasts at the housework today - can't face a long slog, but might manage 15 mins of activity at a time. Also have this strange desire to make some flapjacks or scones or something.......we shall see!

At the mo, however, I am still in my dressing gown on the sofa and I feel the need for another cup of coffee before I am human (or anywhere near) again!!

Hope everyone has a good day and that the weather is settling down wherever you are x

Morning all; bit late coming on here this morning. Took time getting DH organised for w**k – why can’t they think for themselves sometimes?
CRAZYCHIK – so sorry to hear the sad news; even though it was expected it is still a shock when it happens. You’ll have decided what to do about the kids by now, but I would probably have advised waiting to see how they took the news first. If they hae gone to school, then it is definitely a good idea to make the school aware.
Good Luck with your dad – that sounds hopeful.
You do have a lot on your plate at the moment so please make some time just for YOU.
AMIE – I’m glad you enjoyed Portsmouth despite the rain. I was freezing yesterday and I was only out in the rain for about an hour!
AUSSIELASS – I suppose you should make the most of the rain really; Australia doesn’t get much, does it, and that must cause lots of problems. Glad you got back safely, by the way!
JOCKETTUK – Welcome back to ‘sunny’ UK! Like your OH, I absolutely hate flying; there are all these wonderful places I’d love to go to but they all mean long-haul flights and that puts me off. I would love to go to Arizona and stay on a ranch and go out riding every day rounding up cattle, so, one day, I’ll have to be brave!
HARD-UP HESTER – sounds like you have the making of a little business there – your cakes are obviously delicious so perhaps you could supply them regularly?
N9EAV – Well done on your life-saving expertise! You should feel very proud of yourself. I hope the patient is on the mend but just think how reassuring you must have been for his wife. I did a first aid refresher last October and, like AMIE, I couldn’t believe how much the procedures have changed since my previous one years ago. I really think everyone should do first aid as part of the National Curriculum with refreshers every couple of years; a good many more lives would be saved in emergency situations, I’m sure.
TAPLADY- I hope the mopping-up goes well; it sounds horrendous. Hope your mum’s property is out of danger.
The weather was truly awful yesterday and I’m so grateful that we weren’t affected but I really feel for all those who were. It’s terrible that some people have lost their lives – just shows the power of nature.
At the moment here it’s lovely and sunny, warm with blue skies. There are some clouds up there but DH said they’re too high for rain! We’ll see – I don’t trust it or his forecasting skills!
Have DGS round for tea after school and before his cricket match (if the rain holds off) so I’m making his favourite dinner: oven chips (it’s the only time we have chips!), salad and some cunningly disguised turkey breast (because he thinks he doesn’t like meat!), with strawberries and icecream for pud and some cherries if he’s still hungry! The cherries were £1.49 for a large punnet in Sainsbury’s – a real bargain and they’re delicious.
WM is on the second load and I should be able to hang it out; I need to pop out and post my one item that sold on eBay yesterday (one out of four I’d listed this time which is my worst result so far! Still, every penny counts, doesn’t it?)
Well, must go – would love to sit here all day but I still – as always – have loads to do including the dreaded ironing!
Will call in later

Hello again
N9eav - I hope your neighbour will be ok. What a scare for all of you! Well done to you!
jocketuk - glad you had a great time!
taplady - hope your mum will be ok. Any anyone else who's suffering with the flooding.
A lot of our roads was closed & flooded. Girls at work had to leave their cars there, as water was up to their knees.

I over slept this morning, had a rough night, as you can imagine. I sat the kids on the bed, and told them, that grandad died last night. Luckily, they understand death after talking about it when the rabbit & cat died recently. But they was also aware how poorly grandad was too, so that helped.
DS said straight away he didn't want to go to school. Then DD said she wanted to stay at home also. I sat & wrote letters for the teachers explaining the death & giving them my contacts tel numbers just incase they went. Ive rung the school and said they wont be coming in.
Ive just got to ring work now! Manager can be a heartless b!t@h at times. But I cant leave the kids at home with a baby sitter. That wouldn't be fair!

Anyway, best go, and cancel an appointment I had for later. And ring work!
Thanks to everyone for the advise. I think I knew what was best but just needed some re-assurance. Thankyou all!
Love Emma xxx

hi everyone hope you dont mind if i join the thread but ive been lurking for a while and find it soooo inspiring so thought id join in.

After watching the news this mo ive decided that my probs/moans/gripes have paled into insignificance when so many people in the country have been flooded out and 3 people have died... that is just awful...my heart goes out to all who have been affected.

I had a bad start to the day really... ds is on work experience at a local dog boarding kennels and i had to shout at him to get up (again) this morning so we ended up both right moodybums on the journey there..I hate starting the day like that:(

Ive got a day off today...yay...will still have to go to my job at tea time tho like i do every mon-fri. Its a real pain as im out of the house from 5-7 pm and by the time i get home im cream crackered , which makes cooking the dinner a real effort. Im a self employed cleaner so get totally fed up with cleaning! I really have got to blitz the bathroom today, its really getting me down now.
Want to try to get it done before dallas comes on at 11 as im totally hooked on it lol.

I have been quite down of late (mainly down to my job) and the only thing thats keeping me going is that im counting down the days till we (mum, ds15y and me) go to east coast for weeks holiday...11 days to go.

Im hoping that the break will sort my head out so that i come home refreshed and a bit more positive about my job.

hope you all have a nice day

Morning :hello:

((((((((Crazychik)))))))) so sorry to hear about your exFIL, I know you were expecting it sooner or later but that doesn't make it any easier.
:T :T N9eav :T :T
((((Penny-Pincher!!))))
taplady - I hope your mum escapes major disaster.

Decided that the way around my noisy neighbour, until he gets back from holiday and turns off his stereo timer, is to leave for work earlier

Didn't get a lot done at work yesterday as my boss was out for the afternoon and I felt very unmotivated. Also the girl at the next desk from me is having major personal problems, she ran out on her abusive partner at the weekend and now has none of her possessions and nowhere permanent to stay. I wish there was something productive I could do to help. I have offered anyway.

Took the wally trolley on a run down to Tesco yesterday evening via the recycling bank. I happened upon the "yellow sticker lady" and got a couple of decent bargains - organic stewing steak for £1.10, and a pack of 8 turkey steaks for 50p. Repeat after me: I MUST NOT BUY ANY MORE YELLOW STICKERED MEAT UNTIL I HAVE MORE SPACE IN THE FREEZER. There isn't even space in there for a tray of ice cubes :o

Today I need to get through lots of work, and this evening I am going to a concert. The ticket is already paid for and was only £5, and the programme will be free - the only potential expense will be if (when :D) I bump into friends at the venue as we will no doubt end up going to the pub :o The other danger point is that the venue (the Barbican) sells Green & Blacks organic ice-cream  and I "discovered" the toffee one the other week

I worked out last night that I can end the week on budget as long as I am sensible!

Must be off now

Love Rzl xx

Morning all,
Well done N9eav, that really brings home the fact I wouldn't know what to do. (((Crazychick))) & (((taplady) and anyone else that needs it.

Nothing much going on here. I finally started decorating the bathroom yesterday so just have a final coat to do. Would be nice if the carpenter would bother to come and quote for a new boiler cupboard and boxing the pipes in so the job could be finished. All our linen is still in boxes from the boiler move last Oct! It's not pretty!

OH, who stays away on Mon nights, seems to have caught a bug. Hope he shifts it by the time he gets home tonight! Had a lovely read in bed last night - shouldn't have, because PsychoKitty woke at 4:30 am! Ugh. Took him an hour to get to sleep. He hasn't learnt yet that strokes are just strokes, not reasons to play bite. He's p'd off Echo cat severly by wanting to play or suckle. She keeps running away to go sleep in peace.

Catowen how's the smell? I thought my kitchen smelt because of lamb fat I'd drained off but I've put that to freeze so I can throw it out as a solid lump next bin day and kitchen still smells. I have visions of that mouse Bailey-cat brought in having died in an inaccessible hole somewhere rather than having escaped. :(

Hope all have a good, or at least reasonable day. Going to book circus tickets for the weekend. Hope it's not downpouring again then!

Morning!

Crazychik Sorry about your FIL, it's probably best that you all have a day at home together looking after one another.
N9eav Well done!
Taplady Hope your mum is ok and there's not too much damage to her house.

Well it's stopped raining here and the sun is trying to appear but it's still a bit chilly. I've woken up with a sore throat again so I'm hoping it won't turn into something nasty. I haven't got time to be ill, I've got loads to get through at work before we break up.
I walked the girls to school and I need to give the house a good clean then I'm going to make a couple of lasagnes. After that I've got to finish off some paperwork for school as I'm in w*** for the rest of the week.
Have a busy/peaceful day!
