I'd be willing to bet you're just a fantasist making things up.
And, unlike your bet, there's actual evidence for mine.0 -

Thats the beauty of living in a consumerist society ... If you don't like the service a retailer offers you then there are competitors who would be willing to take your vote ...just vote with your feet (and purse /wallet)Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -

D*mn; you've rumbled me... I'm actually just a tiny pickled brain in a jar, stretching out the occasional synapse in order to annoy people online...0 -
Does anyone sill use notes to pay for shopping, I always use a card that gives rewards back.0

Hold on a moment. What if the self service till was rigged with explosives, set to only detonate when someone put £10 in? Surely that's classed as a terrorist threat and the OP could have been killed or worse -- hurt. OP definitely needs some compensation here. Maybe get that big angry Scotsman some compo' too."Always fulfil your needs, only fulfil your wants when your needs are no longer a concern" - citricsquid0

Morrisons self service tills are the absolute pits in comparison to Sainsburys/Tesco/Asda tills.
First the OP was either served where:
(1) the Manager/operator was being negligent/deceptive in saying that the till needed to be counted.
or
(2) Being served by someone with inadequate training.
How many times do we have Managers/operators/till clerks imposing their often wrong version of rules?
I used a Morrisons self serve till where the machine locked up after I inserted a £20 note. The operator opened the till to see that the last note fed in was a £20 in the glass window and took me over to Customer Services to hand over my change. Easy, simple and good customer service. The man without a signature.0 -
well i worked in the cash office in a supermarket, and it is not always possible.
the cash office was not manned 24/7 and theres not always someone who is trained to do it in the store.
the store i worked at didn't have anyone in cash office on sundays, so monday morning meant they needed to cash up the tills for both saturday and sunday before they could even think about checking if it was correct for monday.
also if the system is in the middle of processing something, you can't stop it to check if a till is correct in the middle
I'd also imagine that there's certain security procedures in opening up a self service till. Having a large amount of cash removed from a machine whilst the store is open may not be possible.0 -

Then they need to rethink the technology they use.
It's not acceptable for the store to take and withhold your money just because it makes things more convenient for their procedures.0 -

If you went to an atm and it failed to dispense the money, you'd have to wait until the machine was balanced. If you went to a local shop and they gave you the wrong change, again you'd have to wait until they cashed up. If you went to the bank to deposit money and they paid in the wrong amount, you would have to wait until they cashed up.
Just settle petal. You're getting all worked up over something that was fixed for the op at the time.0 -

Oh And it's not about being more convenient for their procedures. It's about the safety of their staff and customers. An open till and transportation of cash poses a security risk.0
