Went to Manchester Arndale this morning with my 72 year old mother who is at an age where she thinks she can say and do anything she wants!! She's never been to a Boots sale before, so I asked her what she wanted and I was prepared to go and [STRIKE]fight for[/STRIKE] get them.

Next minute, I spot my Mum arguing with a woman who had hit her in the side with a basket. Lady was lovely apologising, Mum's stood there, arms full of Brilliant Brunette items (even though she's grey) saying 'Do you know how old I am, have some respect! :o:o

I then went to find the soap and glory sets and heard mother shouting me, 'OVER HERE, THERE OVER HEEEERRRRREEEEE, WHOOOO HOOO, HERE I AM' waving at me with S&G set in her hand. :o

I then seen the scarves and slippers and seen a nice cream scarf reduced from 12 to 3.60 so put it over my neck to see if it was too long ... Mum decides it nice for me, says she'll treat me to it and then tries to put it in the basket .. whilst it's still round my neck!!

When I'd finally got all my stuff, I told her we should go downstairs and pay as upstairs was total carnage. We went down the stairs and to the self scan and she was picking things up along the way and when I got to the till, she asked me to put them through on my bill as she thought I'd like them for someone

Never ever going to a Boots sale with my mother ever ever again!!

Oh God my mum's like that too, maybe we should shop with each other's mums next year, it's always funny when it's not your own. my mum will give me a loud running commentary from 2 aisles away... 'Sassyblue there's a woman CLEARING THE SHELVES round here it's DISGRACEFUL!' :o

Loads of slippers and hats, gloves etc in ours.

    Happy moneysaving all.

I'm laughing at those on Boot's facebook page, who are threatening to become Superdrug shoppers, because they didn't get what they hoped. Anything I wanted, I bought when it was 50% off, I knew not much would be left in the 70/75% sale. Waiting & hoping is a chance that people take. Throwing dummies out and threatening to shop at Superdrug?

    :rotfl: :rotfl: really?! oh dear!!

At the end of the day you take the risk. I wanted a few items which I bought at 50% off and then there was other stuff I wanted which I thought were too expensive at 50% but at 70/75% were more affordable however my store ran out of what I wanted at 70/75% off as did online so I didn't bother with the sale this year.

With regards to those saying its tat I can understand to a certain degree, some of it isn't to my taste but as gifts I do think they are good. Times are hard and I fully understand people stopping up/queuing up to get them Id have done the same if there was something I wanted. What bothers me about the sale is those buying it simply to sell on EBay because it take it away from those who genuinely want it for an aunt/sister/cousins bday/xmas etc I know we are in a "free world" economy but I do detest the selfishness in the actions the EBayers do in order to get a cheap box of toiletries.

Did anyone go to Guildford this morning?

I gave it a miss as last year was a nightmare, it was like a rugby scrum

Just wondered what the stock levels were like as they usually have quite a bit in the sale.

There was a queue. Everyone polite as far as I could see but obviously prepared (i.e. knew what they were out to buy etc.). A couple of people seemed to have about 10 baskets worth but were polite enough and no barging.

Upthread - no need for a comment about the Asians in Blackburn. Two Asians at Guildford and neither had their "large families" with them(!) (unlike some of the non-Asians). I don't see how the race of someone is relevant.
  • Went to Westfield W12 this afternoon - Not a great deal left. No S&G, No7 or any other major brand. Some people were still managing to fill big bags/baskets though! Also, there was a power failure and we had to wait about 30 mins for the tills to come back on! :(

I haven't read through the whole thread but this post just sums up for me what it was like where I went (Speke).
It's got worse there year on year... I've been going since about 2005 or perhaps even earlier? And up to about 2011 it was always really civilised, only maybe 10 or 15 shoppers there at opening time, browsing pleasantly standing aside etc. These past say three years it's got steadily worse, to the point of long queues outside the shop, everyone barging the door at 9am, trollies blocking the aisles, women with two or three trollies piled high and just grabbing handfuls of everything off the shelves.
I managed to pick up a few bits for my mum's and other family birthdays, plus one or two party presents for the kids, but that was it. It was a nightmare.
It's become a victim of its own success I think, used to be something I looked forward to with excitement, now I just don't feel like going any more!

I too have been doing the boots sale for years quite by accident to start. I think this site is a lot to do with it as it is advertised in the newsletter. I feel sorry for those who have awful experiences particularly if like me you are buying for christmas and birthdays rather than to sell on.
I think that those of us that have been going for years can usually work the date of the sale out and that we should not contribute to these threads in the lead up to stop the madness that some stores see. Call me mean but I hate greed.

Wow it's a bit heated on here today...I tend to agree with your post....I got enough smellies at Christmas and I used to work for boots and always stocked up on gift sets but then could never work out who to give them to so most went to charity....if you genuinely will use them or give them as presents good luck to you....but beware spending for the sake of a bargain...it's not a bargain if you don't need them !! Nowt for me!!
