My mother didn't really let me cook...she said she learned by watching, so I had to watch!

Didn't help much when I got married and my first home, made a lot of stupid mistakes. Mostly though, I think it should be about costing food and cooking it, because that can come as a shock!

I taught my daughter from a young age, she made mistakes but that's how you learn, although being autistic that didn't always apply. She's a pretty good cook if supervised with weight, measures and timing.
  • Hi everyone - just thought I'd introduce myself as starting to lurk on this thread :D

Single mum with one son here, good to see there are other singlies here :)

Ps loving the cooking memories - can't remember the first thing I made (need to ask my mum!) but when I first moved out (age 17) I remember made myself a plate of spaghetti with some melted white choc. Just figured it would turn out like a sauce. Grim! Bit better now ha ha x

    Hi selloptape :D

Thanks for the laugh, love that you thought white chocolate sauce would go with spaghetti :rotfl:

    Hi BookWorm
Never mind, it's Friday tomorrow already :)

I'd kept today clear to take my DM to a hospital appointment, but they phoned late yesterday to postpone it until next week, so had an unexpected free day.

So got a bit more cutting back in the garden done. I know it sounds like I have a huge garden, but it's actually just a small town garden, everything just seems to grow much too large for the space. At least now the whirlygig can whirl without catching on plants.
The puppy "helped"...I really needed some of the cuttings chewed up and left all over the garden :rotfl:

I often have her at my house when DS2 is at work. She can be so funny, today she was sitting at the door with her tail in her water bowl, I don't think she'd even noticed.

Some tradesmen turned up today (not at mine unfortunately, for a job I was helping arrange at parents)...it seems accosting the boss in the street works :rotfl:

I have a new bad habit...got myself hooked on a particular flavour and brand of crisps...not sure how it happened as I don't normally eat crisps!

awww puppies really are so cute and funny..and generally awesome aren't they? :blushing:

Oooh share what flavour/variety of crisps? I love crisps and they are my downfall...don't have them in the house now or I eat them...just can't help myself :o

In fact, I've slipped back into naughty habits around eating in general last few weeks..... actually pretty much since my recent trip to Italy...deffo need to get back to being good.

They are w@lkers caramelized onion and balsamic vinegar ...no other flavour will do. Local shop often sells them at less than half price, so I've bought a few bags.
I don't get it, I didn't eat crisps for years, so why have I got a craving for these?

Thee's a right nip in the air this morning, soon be scarf weather again. Really not looking forward to winter.

We could do with an Indian summer. The grass out the back really needs cutting. Not only has it rained at least some of every day for the last two weeks, on Wednesday it rained so much that some of our local small rivers burst their banks. My friend ended up with 2 ft of smelly muddy water in the downstairs of her house. Our house is on a hill but the back garden slopes down so it's still very wet at the bottom end.

The house elf is back at school and I have made brownies for him today. He prefers home made brownies to shop bought cakes. It's slowly dawning on me that I can listen to whatever music I like in the car as he's not there and I can sing if I want to :rotfl: He's right about the singing by the way, I'm terrible.

I'm still having migraine problems from the menopause. Last week I had one that seemed to be the two different types of migraines combined and the headache lasted three days  I'm hoping they're not going to be a standard monthly feature. Those crisps sound tasty....I'm trying to lose weight again as my friend is getting married next year. I really don't want to look like this on the wedding photos.....

I know the ones you mean Ellie - they are very nice indeed. I have similar issues with the same range but roast chicken & thyme flavour .. very moreish!

Perhaps it's the particular flavour combination that just hits the spot with you? :p

Mum2one - you have just reminded me I need to sort out another eye test - thanks!

Cranky - sorry to hear you have been suffering with migraines - fingers crossed you don't have the same next month.

I had to smile reading about you singing in the car... I do that too...I'm also terrible but it doesn't matter as no-one to have listen to it :D

I'm ravenously hungry this evening so off to find something yummy to eat but simple to prepare..... ;)
