I decided this morning to Do Something, instead of just hanging around the house like I usually do...so I headed into town to the large car boot sale, thinking I might find something nice for my kitchen.
Might have been a good plan to check it was on first :rotfl:
It's on nearly every Sunday, but today there was just an empty field. Found a small sale elsewhere and had a wander round there, only bought a few dvds and a dress (which is so low cut it shows my undies, might try it with something underneath...obviously the reason why it was being sold unworn).
So that's 25 miles of petrol and a Sunday morning I'll never get back again, I'd have been better off staying at home and doing some of the never ending housework :rotfl:
I've been given a book called Elizabeth is Missing, about an 80 year old woman called Maud, anyone read that one?
I plan to start it tonight.
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
So who is Elizabeth then, if it's about Maud? :rotfl: Clearly I haven't read it!
HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGGGGGGGGE hugs JKS :rotfl:. Mind, if you'd had your wits about you, you should have eyeballed "The Mouth" and gloated that, having put on weight, you've suddenly found you are soooooo attractive to men who like the roly poly shape, so can't keep up with all the action!:D Might have silenced her quicker!
I'm fairly sure she wasn't being awful, just horribly thoughtless. You do seem to meet more than your fair share of thoughtless people. Not pleasant. Was there nothing about her (apart from her mouth!) you could have embarassed her with?
I haven't even started sorting cupboards. I'm in CBA mode...mainly going to blame the pusses as they are sooooo demanding, wanting to play and cuddle. It's such hard work :rotfl:
I'm going to narrow down my safe deposit box - good suggestion, BW, thanks, though I have no intention of it being fitted to my newly plastered walls...if someone wants my worth nothing stuff that much, they can have them. I'm not expecting to be burgled, just want temptation out of the way of any troubled kids.
And I will order a couple of covered litter trays to freak out YBC, who will no doubt think they are to take him to the vets or cattery. The chances of him using one is probably slim to none...cue accidents...this in itself could be enough to make me stop the fostering before it even starts. They are insisting on covered trays but not every cat takes to them, so...let's see. I think LMMM will be fine as she has the confidence to tackle most things in life, luckily.
And no, no idea on fostering of actual kids. Real life kids . I have to get through panel first, get recommended, get agreed, then get matched (which isn't going to be easy). I'm not holding my breath.

Em, I think Elizabeth is Maud's friend from childhood, I'll tell you when I've read it
The blurb on the back of the book says
"Maud is forgetful...
...somewhere in Maud's damaged mind lies the answer to an unsolved seventy-year-old mystery. One everyone has forgotten about.
Everyone except Maud..."

LB - I can totally appreciate you wouldn't want to fix something to your newly plastered walls. I thought you were considering putting it in the wardrobe? They can be fixed inside those just as easily
Ellie - no not read that one. Look forward to hearing if it's any good0 -
Any option of fitting a small safe under the floorboards?:)
Savings goal £30,000 1% = £300.

:grouphug: :grouphug: Huge hugs here JKS
My jaw just dropped lower and lower reading your post...
oh my goodness, how many assumptions did that woman make all in the space of 2 minutes, she probably broke the record!
and to say " so you've obviously been getting some action in! Well done you!"...how blooming patronising!!!
I hope you can shrug it off, bl00dy cheek!
Thanks for the hugs ladies, & relieved that you could all get your arms around my abnormally fat middle :rotfl:
Yes it sounded incredibly rude to my ears, & at the time I didn't get the patronising angle (as if there is someone mad enough to consider doing the deed with fat old me). I'm sure it wasn't said with malice, but it still hurt & I'm trying to shrug it off - think I won't be sharing it at work tea break tomorrow though...
I seem to be someone that others feel they can say what they like to my face & I won't mind. Friends have noticed too that random strangers will freely comment on my outfit etc, yet they are never on the receiving end of such comments. And its not like I'm wearing bizarre clothes either :rotfl: I guess its that flashing light above my head that says be as rude as you like (the sign next to the un-datable sign)

Lost mornings like that are soooo frustrating - I don't feel so guilty about staying in my PJs today. Am pottering on with admin & contemplating menu planning & food shopping, but the tennis is on...
I've got that book in my must listen to pile on my MP3, so I must have thought ut sounded good. Can't remember what its about though, so I'm not much use to you. Maybe you can tell me if its worth listening to when you've read it...

Oh LB, I wish I could think of things like that at the time. My brain goes blank & my mouth flaps like a landed fish - proving in this instance that I am deeply unattractive & understandably not coupled up :rotfl:
I'm fairly sure she wasn't being awful, just horribly thoughtless. You do seem to meet more than your fair share of thoughtless people. Not pleasant. Was there nothing about her (apart from her mouth!) you could have embarassed her with?
I'm too well mannered (most of the time) to be rude to anyone; bit of a doormat really even though I'd love to be different. I can be very blunt if friends ask my opinion, but I can't bring myself to make any kind of scene in public... I need to work on my thoughtless side :rotfl:

I don't know many cats that like those covered trays - all the cats I've had seem to like an audience :rotfl: Is it really such a deal breaker for the authorities? Seems bonkers - lots of families manage successfully with ordinary trays; kids of any age just have to learn that there are some things you just don't play with! Failing that, could you put the tray inside something that the cats can get into but a child couldn't? A bit like a play pen in reverse.& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Really? Not when they weigh 26kg they can't! My wardrobes would just keel over! I think that the 26kg one I am considering which contains a fire proof smaller box, will scupper most people's attempts to casually remove it! In fact, it's likely to go through the floor of the wardrobe, the floor of the bedroom and end up in a crater in my living room :rotfl:
I looked at the underfloor ones, but the palaver of trying to get flooring up outweighs the advantages.
I just want simples...0 -

All these insenstive attacks come out of the blue, but even if you were prepared to say "How rude are you?" and eyeball the person doing it, you'd feel MUCH better. Putting someone on the spot who is being rude to you is allowed, imho.
And having just one stock answer up your sleeve means no swift thinking needed...just practice saying it.
Easier said than done, I know, but there is only you going to stick up for you....
As for cat litter trays, I was told in no uncertain terms on Friday that my wanting to ensure my cats are safe from any potential child issues and kept healthy/stress free as possible, is a barrier to fostering as the panel are child centred and will not understand my appearing to put my cats first. I countered with the fact that if I didn't feel love and responsibility for my cats, then frankly they shouldn't be considering placing any child with me. The same caring and responsibility will come into play for any child, but it has to be balanced for all of us and that includes the cats. Went down like a lead balloon
I'm happy to try the covered trays but if it doesn't work, then fostering will not be for me.

Gawd, is it just me or do you all feel like you've achieved nothing today, too?
I feel like I'm treading through waist high treacle. Giving up on even thinking of tidy cupboards. That's always something to look forward to next weekend :rotfl:
