    Hi all

Great to catch up on what everyone has been doing. I was at the eye hospital on Wednesday for a goodly long time but at least I was presented with some different eye candy in the form of a military doctor (he was rather handsome and very caring). I had to have photographs taken of the back of my eye too which was a bit disconcerting but thankfully all is well.

I had to nag the man who was coming to plane the door - it would appear that he turned up today whilst I was out. I still feel as though I have to put my shoulder to the door to open it but at least I can get it open now. I hate unreliability.

Went to the library today and nipped into the haberdashery/cake shop (there is a cake shop at the back of the haberdashery) and had a natter with my pals, I bought some gluten free biscotti and got given a box of short breads, two tubes of cupcake icing and a tube of white chocolate that needs to be melted and then I can draw shapes and let them harden to go on top of cakes etc. I have noticed that I often get given things when they are coming close to their sell by date yet it doesn't go off and always tastes ok. I also did something unusual - I went into a new vintage tea shop that opened today, I wasn't made to feel weird because I was on my own either. The teashop is fab and has vintage and retro furniture in it, all the tables have cloths on and vintage china is used to serve the tea and cakes. I had fun flicking through a copy of the Woman's Weekly from 28 April 1962 (totally different from today's mag) and I had to smile when I saw the push chair that I had as a child. There are lots of vintage mags to flick through. Also it was reasonably priced with a pot of tea and a scone with jam and cream costing me £3.50.

Also went to the butchers as I fancied something different - it was chicken cordon bleu for dinner tonight, tomorrow might be brisket or beef burger either way I was pleased because the butcher charged me exactly £10.

Have been doing lots of sorting out and chasing up a parcel - the parcel should have been delivered on a guaranteed 5 day service to the USA - it took from 31 March to 8 April to get from the village post office to Coventry:mad: Gawd knows where it is now.

    Good morning everyone :)

I have a massive pile of ironing to do today (it's always bigger when I've been away for a few days) - anyone wanna help? :D

Nothing much else planned today. There are a few more house jobs I should do but I can feel motivation is lacking for those ....

Horace - glad to hear your appointment went well. Did you come to a decision around the position witht the car?
How annoying about the parcel. I hope it eventually turns up

...JKS I feel your pain, I weighed myself yesterday
I've put on 11 pounds in the last 6 months and I feel really podgy. I'm trying to talk myself into the right frame of mind to diet again, but it's not happening just yet. Summer's getting closer and my summer clothes won't fit!

Certainly wasn't summer today though, icy wind and hailstones. I discarded my thermal vest the other day, and I was bleeping freezing at work today :rotfl:
Ne'er cast a cloot and all that..when will I learn?

No hail here thankfully, although I missed my thermal top too when I was sat in the shade. Soon have to dig out the summer clothes (or buy new, larger ones :rotfl:) & found our sandals today in the loft, so I'll have to think about leg shaving soon :(. I wear trousers & walking boots at work since I do a fair bit of pushing trolleys, lifting equipment etc. so shaving may be a Sat am job.

Dieting is so hard, isn't it? In our house DD & DS rarely like the same foods (unless its pizza) - DS is a total carnivore, DD is a refined carbs junky & I love veggies, so cooking is more of a chore than it should be. I'm telling myself I should just be really strict with meal planning, & get my shopping delivered each week after shopping online - but then I'm tied into buying my stuff from the big supermarkets rather than independents. If I did that then it would seem mad to keep the milkman going too (& milk is 81p/pint bottle ) - so someone else loses out to the supermarket.

But it would save me a lot of time shopping, & help my back with lugging it all home again on the bus too. Decisions, decisions. I'm optimistically thinking maybe I wouldn't be spending £25 each time (to get free'ish delivery) but I haven't really added up how much I spend on food for a while, so I expect it's more (& probably a lot more :rotfl:).

I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to food & food shopping though - as I hate cooking so much I keep putting off thinking about it & then end up trying to think about it all when I'm hungry :( No wonder I'm overweight. Maybe I just need to try it for a month & see how we go, & possibly it will help me not impulse buy crisps :D

Why can't I find food shopping & cooking fun & interesting like the girls I work with - they're often talking about cooking but I feel my eyes glazing over from the start.

Need2bthrifty - hope the clinic visit goes well, & delighted to here you're still mending well Mum2one :T

That's a lovely offer BW, but I think I'll pass. I have my work shirts to iron, & that's plenty enough for me!

LB - how did you find the training?

Right - must get off my behind & DO SOME CHORES. I don't want to (sounding like DD here :rotfl:) but the tidy up fairy hasn't been yet this month. Very lax. Hope all are enjoying the sunshine - its grand here so I'm going to encourage kids to go for a bike ride. Need to update the calendar with all he things we need to do so I don't miss anything - have a meeting at school tomorrow night which DD has just handed me the note for, so I'm hoping there aren't any more surprises! Back to real life after the Easter holidays...
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

That's the only way I have found that stops me wanting them/giving in the urge. I just can't have them in the house :(
I find it a little easier with chocolate/biscuits but still try not to keep them around too much either.

I have put on a pound & half over Easter which I know isn't much but it does prove that I have been lax. It's so much harder to get rid than put it on! I need to get back to being good from this week

I find it easier to be motivated when I have people to cook for. It's definitely hard when it's just you. I know you have DS & DD but from the sounds of it, in terms of meals it doesn't work that way.

:rotfl:ha ha fair enough. I thought it was a long shot :p I 've been good and done it myself

Where are you Ellie? Snow seems a bit ridiculous to me as we've had fantastic sunshine although it is quite windy. DD has gone out in a huff as I asked her to get her school books ready for tomorrow - she's still in denial about going back! Its like having a toddler again :rotfl: in that she needs constant amusement/stimulation & still hasn't learnt to "do" things (other than watch TV) for pleasure. DS has been happily painting plastic figures all morning so he's having a fine day. I have cooked a Sunday lunch (almost there) so DD will have to eat later - she was told when it would be ready

Well done on the ironing - I've still got mine to look forward to.

I don't mind cooking for grown ups who I know will appreciate my pitiful efforts, although I can't remember the last time I cooked for a grown up. DS is OK as he usually eats what I cook, just not much rice/pasta/carbs so he doesn't tend to get very full & wants to eat again an hour later. DD just doesn't like anything & hasn't done for some years, or she says she loves something, I buy a couple of whatever they are (cereal was the last one) & then she announces she's gone off them. Again, its like having a toddler as she'll take ages to eat a meal if she doesn't like it, & has to be threatened/cajouled into eating vegetables....

I can't decide if she does it just to p me off or if she really does want to just live on pasta & grated cheese :rotfl: She's starting to put on weight, which isn't helping her low self esteem, & she's always been a watcher rather than a dooer when it comes to PE, so she's going to balloon if she doesn't watch out. She has me as a non-role model, so she knows what eating too much & exercising too little looks like & she says she doesn't want to end up like me, yet she can't seem to join those dots yet.

I can't have crisps/nuts in the house - I'm not so bad with chocolate, but I do have a blow out every few months & eat several walnut whips. Wish I could just get single packs :(

Amazingly lunch is ready all at the same time - doesn't happen very often in this house.
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

South Scotland JKS...it snowed for about 3 hours, really big flakes of snow, it was quite mesmerizing watching it.
At least it covered up the mess in the garden :)
Don't think it will stay long, temperature is meant to rise again later.

It must be worrying having a teenage daughter, especially one who's fussy about food. I'm like you, I often don't decide what we'll be eating until it's time to start cooking it, I see cooking as a horrible but necessary chore...if I won the lottery I'd be the size of a house, I'd eat out all the time :)

Bookworm, I'm not ironing anything today, it will all be smoothed down and put away without seeing an iron...actually it probably won't be put away, it will be laid on the cupboard top, and I'll wear it all again from there, I really don't know why I've got cupboards :D

I have to go food shopping today, don't want to, but there will be no breakfast tomorrow if I don't.

It's been a lovely sunny day up in NE Scotland, albeit a bit chilly when you got out of the sunshine, but did hear that snow was forecast in some areas.

I hate ironing so wont be volunteering to help anyone out I'm afraid and if I'm really careful taking washing off the line and putting it immediately on to hangers I can pretty much keep down to a reasonable amount that which needs to be ironed.

I had the most peculiar conversation with a friend this morning, she is thinking about getting new carpets fitted and although she is a very active and independent 80yr old, I said that a lot of the companies expected the rooms to be empty and the old carpet & underlay to be removed, but she wouldn't be able to do that. Thing is she has a daughter, SIL, DGS 21yrs, DGD 15yrs, living 15mins away - she regularly does favours for them ie dog/house sitting several times a year but when I suggested that they could help her clear the room before the new carpet arrives you would have thought I was talking a foreign language or she didn't seem to think that was appropriate....is it me??

I do enjoy cooking and experimenting with different recipes, but then again I don't need to cook for anyone else and for sure they probably wouldn't put up with some of the meals that I sit down to

Just heard on the radio that its David Cassidy's 65th birthday - so for any 70's babe's out there was it David or Donny or your wall? :D

Best go and carefully take my washing in and hang it up.

    Aug - Grocery spends = £42.19

    Definitely David :)
The Osmonds were far too clean cut for my liking.

Re your friend and the carpet..a lot of people, especially older people, don't like to ask for help. Maybe she just doesn't feel it's right to ask, even if they would be happy to help out?
I wonder if they know she's planning a new carpet?

I know with my own parents it can be hard to get the level of help offered just right, because they don't want to need help, but sometimes it would make their life easier. There's nowt as stubborn as folk!
