OS Singlies - We Do It Our Way!

You can do it LB. At least you're being trained. I gave birth, was handed a baby and was left to get on with it as best I can :rotfl:
Even allowing for instinct, every parent has times when they look at their child and think "what next". It's also good that you have pets. Little people can whisper things to a snuggly bundle of fur that they wouldn't admit to any one else. Animals are good at healing.0 -
Good morning
LB - best of luck!
I'm having a :coffee: and trying to motivate myself to do something. It can be so full on at work during the week that if I don't have very specific plans at the weekend, it can take me a while to get myself moving0 -

Perhaps get a shotgun, NTBT? If it doesn't work with the birds, it may just provide food for thought for the neighbours...
Gawd, I am shattered. My life has taken on a life of it's own, and my normal life seems a distant memory just in the space of a week! I have had foster social worker visits, chosen a foster agency, spoken a few times with my lovely very experienced foster carer "buddy" and started training yesterday (will be in training again today and tomorrow).
And what a different world it is...heartbreaking and uplifting. But it really upset me when I heard that a question a child would like to ask a new carer is "Will you have food for me?". What horrors lie behind a question like that is....well....let's just say it beggars belief of any decent person and no wonder these children don't trust/don't settle/are disruptive etc.
Lots to learn. Lots to digest. Lots to think about - can I do this? That's the million dollar question, and the answer is I really don't know. Really don't know. But I will try to get through the assessment..
What I do know, though, is that already I feel part of a family of carers, and for a singlie who has felt so alone in dealing with everything, that's quite a revelation that I really won't be alone dealing with this so important job.
So, I'm off for another heartbreaking and uplifting day.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend. Wish me luck....goodness knows I need it!
LB xx
Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind, but gone are the days of killing scavengers and hanging them from the trees and fences to deter others from the area.
Well done on taking the plunge LB, there is such a desperate shortage of foster carers throughout the country. Back in the late 70's/early 80's I worked with young children from socially deprived areas in the city, some of the stories were scandalous and that was before the drug culture really took hold in this area.
The sun has just broken through the clouds here and that's my cue to get out for some exercise.
Have a nice day!!Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

Ellie, yes I agree that some girls can be slimy, but the responsibility for not following through is with your partner. My ex followed through or initiated...if you can trust your partner, other women shouldn't be a threat. I gave out vibes that I was not on offer to other men, wouldn't entertain it although there were opportunities if I'd wanted to...
I'm still feeling tired and lacking in motivation, other than working of course...each day, I say I will tidy tomorrow!0 -
Need2bthrifty, that made me Lol at the hanging of scavengers...thinking f all the "scavengers" that image conjured up
We have jackdaws nesting, but they don't seem to bother with the bird feeders. I've stopped feeding birds at the moment as kept finding the fat balls dragged across the garden and was worried it was rats.0 -

I'm still at the "Huh?" stage of parenting - haven't a clue how to get it right any of the time & it hasn't got any less terrifying for me over the years :rotfl:Need2bthrifty wrote: »Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind, but gone are the days of killing scavengers and hanging them from the trees and fences to deter others from the area...
Isn't that a bit of a harsh way of dealing with the neighboursEllie, yes I agree that some girls can be slimy, but the responsibility for not following through is with your partner. Absolutely agree Byatt, & sadly I've had a few ex partners I couldn't trust. I blame them, not the other women. Relieved I don't have to be bothered with any of that nonsense now.
LB - hope the training goes well & isn't too harrowing. Your mind must be reeling with all this new information.
We officially have the post holiday blues here. Neither DD or DS want to go back to school on Monday (nor do I really) & we're playing the "But you told me you didn't have any homework last week" game which is never much fun. Our school has a planner system where the kids are supposed to write down what their homework is - but that only works if the kids are organised enough to write it down as the teaching staff never check, & sadly neither of mine are.
I've suggested an online planner system many times, but it's too much work according to school. It's not just my kids who seem to be in detention at least once a week for forgetting to write down/do homework, & various teachers have to give up their precious break & lunchtimes to supervise these detentions, so I'm sure they can't enjoy it much either.
We've tried different plastic wallets etc. & now I'm just hoping they make it to the end of year 13 in one piece - they're both so unhappy about going back they're spoiling this last w/e by winding each other up.
Oh well, we're off to take DS to his martial arts class, so I'm hoping that will cheer them both up a bit. DD is already in the dog house as her bedroom is trashed (so cross after all the time I spent sorting it out for her ). She's at that vile "CBA about anything & especially not you" teenage phase :rotfl:
Hope all are having a good day.
Have just weighed myself - big mistake. Even after having flu & not eating anywhere nearly as much as I usually do for over a month, I've managed to put on over half a stone. I suppose its because I haven't been doing anywhere near as much walking as usual. I bet it'll take me a lot longer than a month to lose it all (& the rest
). Why is life so unfair?
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin

Byatt - you can live vicariously through me today for tidying
I have had a blitz round the bathroom and garden and have just washed my front windows and porch. I got fed up of peering through the dirt
JKS - welcome home from your holibobsalthough sorry to hear you & the kids all have the post-hol blues
Just having a well deserved (well I think so) sit down. It's a bit torturous though as I have a joint of gammon in the slow cooker and the smell is wafting right through the house

I can confirm the gammon tasted as nice as it smelt. Just had some with veggies - as they same in some parts "lush"0

Sounds nice Bookworm, better than mine, I haven't been shopping all week so down to left overs.
LB good luck with your training, sounds like you would get a lot of support. A word of advice, maybe don't mention shotguns? :rotfl:
JKS I feel your pain, I weighed myself yesterday
I've put on 11 pounds in the last 6 months and I feel really podgy. I'm trying to talk myself into the right frame of mind to diet again, but it's not happening just yet. Summer's getting closer and my summer clothes won't fit!
Certainly wasn't summer today though, icy wind and hailstones. I discarded my thermal vest the other day, and I was bleeping freezing at work today :rotfl:
Ne'er cast a cloot and all that..when will I learn?
If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?0 -
I have plenty left Ellie - feel free to pop over0
