Hi Ellie :hello: - you sneaked in whilst I was posting :p

You sound like you need a hug - have a dodgy one :grouphug: I also get frustrated waiting on other people/businesses to do things. One of my biggest bug bears is people saying they will do something and then don't

    Hello I'm here too :wave::wave:,

haven't been on the thread for months, just came in for a browse and couldn't resist.

Been twiddling my thumbs a bit tonight - TV on the blink or rather I should say the remote control - the original gave up the ghost (buttons not working) got a replacement off fleabay but dropped it once and something inside started to rattle, dropped it again and something else on the loose now and it aint working at all. Havent worked out how to work the buttons on the side of the telly so gave up. I do have another tv in my bedroom but seems ridiculous to go off to bed at 7.00pm just to watch the telly.

Caught up on "back in time for dinner" on iplayer and although there is a thread for this series the only comment I would make is that I think the 80's was definitely where the problems with obesity started - more women working full-time, availability of convenience foods, time saving gadgets and perhaps more girls studying fabric and fashion as opposed to food and nutrition at school (with the 80's fashion why would you) but maybe that was just the Scottish system as I haven't heard it mentioned at all on any of these programs. Also does anybody know anyone who filled in this "national food survey" they keep talking about?

On a completely different track - I'm also beginning to think that I should give up completely on the bird feeders again - I stopped putting them out a couple of years ago because after dealing with a few different bird corpses/remains I felt I was really only providing entertainment for the neighbourhood cats. But after the demise of one keen hunter and a new dog in the neighbourhood I managed to attract some of the little birds back to my garden. However with my neighbours enthusiasm for feeding the seagulls/crows/magpies/jackdaws the poor little birds that I had managed to attract to my feeders over the past 6months have now disappeared - bl00dy jackdaws have now worked out how to get at the feeders so no sign of my favourite little birdies

Mine too Bookworm, and when I have to keep phoning to chase things up, I'm the one marked down as a nag

    Hi Need2bthrifty

I've not watched that show but I do want to watch it on catch up.

Re: the birds - how annoying about the jackdaws. I wonder if there are ways to deter the larger birds whilst still encouraging smaller birds  I'm sure someone more than knowledgable than me will be along to offer some advice

Feeling quite frustrated...have several things going on which need input from other people/businesses...why does no-one just get on and get things done on time any more? It's driving me mad, all these half done things waiting on other people doing what they promised would already be done
And some of them will want paying for their sub standard services

I feel for you Ellie, I've been in that position and it really became quite laughable at the time I asked the "When" question I kept getting defensive/avoidance statements, then got accused of aggressively ordering people around, where in fact they agreed to do the work, all I was asking was......WHEN!!!!!!

Thanks Bookworm but I was really just having a bit of a moan, think the problem is my neighbours rather than the birds - my subtle hints dont seem to be working =
"getting fed up cleaning birdsh!t off my windows"
"do the seagulls !!!!!! on your car as much as they do on mine"
"there was only half a dozen last year - by summer there will be about 50 of them"

Glad to read that you are on the mend, I had to go to the clinic this week as part of the regular screening programme, cant belief it's 3years since Iv'e been. Last time they found a lump which fortunately was benign fingers crossed this time there is nothing to report.

    Hi All

Perhaps get a shotgun, NTBT? If it doesn't work with the birds, it may just provide food for thought for the neighbours... ;)

Gawd, I am shattered. My life has taken on a life of it's own, and my normal life seems a distant memory just in the space of a week! I have had foster social worker visits, chosen a foster agency, spoken a few times with my lovely very experienced foster carer "buddy" and started training yesterday (will be in training again today and tomorrow).

And what a different world it is...heartbreaking and uplifting. But it really upset me when I heard that a question a child would like to ask a new carer is "Will you have food for me?". What horrors lie behind a question like that is....well....let's just say it beggars belief of any decent person and no wonder these children don't trust/don't settle/are disruptive etc :(.

Lots to learn. Lots to digest. Lots to think about - can I do this? That's the million dollar question, and the answer is I really don't know. Really don't know. But I will try to get through the assessment..

What I do know, though, is that already I feel part of a family of carers, and for a singlie who has felt so alone in dealing with everything, that's quite a revelation that I really won't be alone dealing with this so important job.

So, I'm off for another heartbreaking and uplifting day.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. Wish me luck....goodness knows I need it!

    LB xx

LB Best of luck on what looks like a very busy weekend for you!

I pleased that you feel supported as this means that you are likely to be more determined to succeed, which if you manage to do, will provide some stability in a child's life and hopefully prove to have a lasting impact.

Keep us updated if you can. :)
