Hi, Folks
some really good, thought provoking and motivating posts to get us in the New Year spirit :T
Thanks also, BigJenny, that is exactly the thread I wanted. I'll be joining all my challenges tomorrow
:rotfl:
I went to the library today and got some craft books to get some ideas of what I might enjoy, getting my creative juices running. I also got a book on money management/understanding, written by a woman for women....so far so MSE.
I then hit the sales, and bought a new coat - a lovely pink duffle coat. If I'm heading for fab 50, I may as well be visible :rotfl:
NTBT - yes, nice idea to think of a special holiday or a vespa, but I'm afraid I am expecting my job to disappear later in the year or next year so my savings are purely for the potential rainy days. I'm working hard to reduce the risk of redundancy by working for other parts of my company where projects allow, so I am more hopeful...but who knows...so I'm afraid dreams of special holidays are on hold for now anyway.
As for the benefits of a phone call, I completely agree. The time or cost is far outweighed by the warmth of a loved human voice, and I'm glad you've had that with your cousin. We all use texts etc so much that we do tend to forget how lovely a phone call can be.

Afternoon All
It's a much better day here, a bit cloudy but the warmest its been for over a week.
I'm a very happy NTBT, I had my annual check-up at Haemotology this morning and although the white cells are still up a bit the platlets are back in the normal range for the first time in 8 years :j :j
So in celebration tonight I thought I would go all "retro" and bought a bottle of advocaatI remember having this in my teens back in the 70's and thought myself soooo grown up and sophisticated. I may even go look see if I have some bright blue eye-shadow and go for the whole look :rotfl: Does anybody remember the advocaat advert = "evenink and morninks it must be Varninks"
Well I've done all the pre new year cleaning, tidying, cooking etc that I intend to do, so its feet up, chocs close to hand (diet starts tomorrow) and watch the dirty dozen........Is it me or have there been loads of war films on tv over the past couple of weeks?
Way to go LB, I would love a pale pink duffle coat, is it the mid-thigh length?
I hate how winter coats always seem to be in boring old black, brown, grey......as if the cold, winter months werent depressing enough, we dont need dark depressing colours to wear as well. Although I do have a long charcoal grey coat it only tends to come out for funerals or if it's really cold but accessorised with bright coloured gloves, scarfs, brooches. I much prefer my short length cerise pink coat - you can spot me a mile away.
Fingers crossed that your job isnt in jeopardy, but at least you are doing the right thing taking on different work, lets management see that you can be flexible, only downside I could see is that you may end doing the work two people.

I'm afraid I am pretty much doing the work of 2 people, my day job and my extra project work, but my aim is to have the extra project work replace my day job, which comes in fits and starts now really. It's sods law that the moment I started the project work, my own day job ramped up too, so January and February are going to be bloomin long hours, I think. And I still have my supervisory responsibilities, and all that comes along with that, so yes, pretty busy. The upside is that I am really enjoying the challenge of the project work, and really hope it leads to more, until "they" are begging me to stay....yeah, right.... :rotfl:
My coat is ...em..cherry/fuschia/bright pink :rotfl:, and thigh length, I think...but you can't have it, right! It's mine, all mine..
Very pleased to hear your good news on the blood tests. A nice way to start a new year, I think. :T
I've joined my challenges now, and am having a quiet time pampering myself and reading more about money management.
This evening will be a quiet reflection of the past year, and a positive look forward to the new year, with a nice meal and a wee tipple. Then full steam into next year, striding forward like a ....striding forward thing :rotfl:.
Does anyone else think the TV is cr&p tonight?...Bloomin 'eck...think I'll be getting a dvd out of my stash.
Whatever you are doing, enjoy a peaceful evening. Happy New Year to you all...
LB xx
ETA - I'm finishing my bottle of advocaat tonight...and yes, I do remember that ad :rotfl:0 -
Yep....cr*p tv indeed. Not that I'm a great tv watcher, but I think about the only thing I've watched in the last week is Last Tango in Halifax (as I recall having liked the last 2 series of it).
Hard work indeed for you at the moment LB and I do hope it pays dividends at the end. You must be shattered. Fingers crossed for you that it works out well.
Advocaat - nope. But pass the Baileys on the other hand or a nice brandy.....now we're talking.0 -

Let's make 2015 as good as it can be
LB xx0 -
May I join you all for 2015 :j
I've been on my own for 14 years now and I have to say I do prefer it. As I put it, I can do what I want, how I want when I want and only if I want
There are of course down sides, mainly that I have to do everything myself, (I live in the middle of a field in France with alpacas, cats and chickens) but I feel that is completely outweighed by being able to 'find' myself, (terrible phrase but it's actually quite apt).
That said, I think I'm ready to return to the UK so I have a lot of work to do here starting with decluttering the years and years of junk I've accumulated moving into places with larger and larger storage spaces. I know I will have to downsize considerably to afford anything in the UK. The farm also needs a lot of work done on it to get it into a salable condition, something that will require all the skills of the MSE forums as I have no income
So I think 2015 is going to be an interesting year but I'm unlikely get a house sale quickly - houses here can take years to sell, mainly because the French don't tend to move. But if you don't take the first step, you never reach the goal - which could be a MSE motto couldn't it?Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

Welcome, dND. It seems that your 2015 is going to be a hectic one! Good luck
.
LavenderBees, your pink coat sounds wonderful. Enjoy.
Need2bThrifty, I must have missed that ad. But I do remember the brilliant Cinzano ad. with Joan Collins and Leonard Rossiter - still makes me smile! The only slightly unfortunate thing was that people tended to refer to it as the Martini ad., which must have irritated Cinzano to bits!e cineribus resurgam("From the ashes I shall arise.")0 -
Hello all
Loving the sound of the pink coat LB, I have a lime green mac that I bring out for interviews.
I have promised myself that I will get out of this fug of depression and move forward. I will sort out my eating so that I eat 3 meals a day or 6 small ones, that way I will lose weight.
I will endeavour to get a full time job - hopefully MnS will keep me on and then I can transfer to the new store that is much more local, failing that I will have to push for full time because I cannot live on 12 hours per week. Sick of being skint all the time.
It was a very lazy day today, I got up quite late and pottered around in my PJs and dressing gown for a goodly while before getting dressed. I put away the washing up that I did yesterday and washed the rest of it today (small sink and draining board).
More immediate plans include doing my tax return (the first time I have had to do it myself), it should be straight forward as I only have two things to put on it. I must also pay for my green waste removal.
Wishing everyone a Happy New Year.0 -
