...and I'm only half-joking. I need a builder for a large-ish job and a roofer at some point soon.
On the other hand, there are some distinct shortages of skilled people here in the first place. That surprised me. But if any osteopaths fancy moving here PLEASE DO and there will be quite a few of us that will lay on a welcome for you:beer:.
The builders aren't local to me - but grew up with them (one of them I've known since I was 3 and he was 18, the other is his son). They travel 4 hours down here and 4 back, and stay while they are here. They have done work on every house I've bought, and provide consultancy in between ... I call them when I have problems/get quotes
Re. osteopaths. Ask around about private physios and you may find some who will provide manipulation anyway. Or can suggest osteopaths or other options. My new physio has found a fantastic pilates teach for me and also recommended a podiatrist and sports massage therapist.
Luckily I haven't moved so far that I've had to change hospital, but strangely since I've moved further away I've been getting early morning appointments :cool:0 -
Just whizzing through tonight peeps.
Mum2one - sorry to hear about your uncle. Sending you some hugs x0 -
Thank you Greenbee for that thought re physios instead. I have just googled and I found only one person (a bit away from me) to add into the "mix" there. I'm quite shocked, I must admit, at how few people there are around here doing osteopathy/chiropractic/physiotherapy. It's not that people here don't need/ask for it, because they do...but there aren't the number of therapists of that type in this area to match the demand.
Even covering all 3 types of therapy and being prepared to take one of the other 2 types (when my preference is osteopathy), it's still problematic.
Back in my home area, I'd decided on osteopathy and had a reasonable choice of people and could get in pretty much when required and, in fact, had noticed my osteopath seemed to be having less demand on his services than when I started with him (ie more empty appointment slots). Here on the other hand....I think my late New Year resolution had better be to get practicing back exercises in a back care book I've bought a while back and not touched since, as self-care seems the only realistic option until such time as we have more therapists here._pale_. Shame I know what country it is that my last one is hankering for and it isn't Wales darn it:(, or I'd think about whether to send him a nice Christmas card later on in the year with a quick note hoping to tempt him to move his practice over here....never mind...
I don't know quite why this is. It's a nice area and you'd think they would want to move to here, as what existing ones there are seem to have come in from outside the area originally (judging by them all having English names).0 -

Hugs to you, Mum2one, may he rest in peace. If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Mum2one, so sorry to hear of your loss, especially at a time when you already have other challenges in your life.
Moneyistooshorttomention, I don't know whereabouts in Wales you are, but would it be possible to nip over the border to Chester or Bristol or somewhere? Or even do an overnighter occasionally?
Greenbee, your builders sound wonderful. I'm working on taming one who's moved into this area, but unfortunately he managed to fall off a roof recently so he's out of action for a bit. (Fortunately for me, it wasn't my roof he fell off, and fortunately for him his injuries aren't serious.)e cineribus resurgam("From the ashes I shall arise.")0 -

Big hugs. It's a tough time for everyone, but hope you manage to take some consolation that he is not suffering now.
