You might as well take the view that the enforced extra rest will come in handy and give a chance to catch up a bit with those tasks we all of us postpone. Displacement activities R Us when it comes to things we don't actually want to do for most of us.
Speaking of which, inspired by Lavender Bees, I've had a couple of quotes back from solicitors for a Will. One said £100 and the other £100 plus VAT (presumably the first solicitor does actually charge £100 plus VAT too? but wasn't efficient enough to mention it). Think I know which solicitor I will be going to then in the event, as that little bit of inefficiency mightn't be the only one the first one would go in for and I cant be doing with inefficiency. So, guess that equals solicitors across the country pretty much charge £100 (plus VAT) automatically then for a straightforward Will (pretty much what I was expecting, as I seem to recall LB saying that's what she is having to pay).
Some pennies take a long time to drop...your comment about the neighbours' ceiling down beneath getting mucked-up by water coming through from your place. Er...it had never occurred to me previously to think what would have happened in similar circumstances many years back when I was living in rented accommodation and water dripped through from my place into Her Down Below. I presume the fact that it was my landlords' fault (not mine) that the water tank was leaking meant that she went to our respective landlord about having the costs associated with putting her d!cor right. You've got me wondering now about that, but they were actually a pretty good (public sector) landlord and I had no complaints about them at all whilst I lived there and found them helpful to tenants, so I guess they did sort out her (as well as me) when their tank "burst".0 -
MITSTM you (and LB) are lucky. Down here the simple single will is £150 + VAT - for all three solicitors I contacted. Hmm, anyone else think they discuss what to charge and then fix the price? Mine is in the process of being drawn up (thanks LB!). Hope I don't get wiped out by a lorry in the next few weeks ...

If you're planning on having a will made and you're over 55 you might just have chosen the right time...

By the time my will was finalised, it cost me £180, but I did also get advice on a couple of other issues while I was there. So, not cheap, but I feel a million times better that it is in place reflecting my wishes.
As I was driving to work, I was thinking that tonight is the first time thst I don't have paperwork to do. It's been a huge amount of effort, but well worth it for peace of mind.
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the discussion with ideas how to organise acces to house, paperwork etc. I have used pretty much every idea you were kind enough to share with me.
Have s good day, Folks!0 -

That's a thought. Can anyone point me in the direction of what post numbers specifically we were all making these points in, so I can refresh my memory about what things I have to take into account please?0 -
No, I can't. I just worked my way through the first couple of days of posts. Most, if not all, is there. All very useful for focusing the mind.0

Evening all
Grotty sort of day work wise as had a difficult meeting to attend. On the plus side I got home a little early so I guess it's swings and roundabouts. Just pondering what to have for tea.... do we think the man in the cupboard would be willing to add chef to the list too? :rotfl: lol0
