Same here (and I only work two days a week).

Also I haven't got the inclination to shop around for food

I loathe food shopping in supermarkets - I'm happy to do it online

Any potential savings I might make be shopping around would be at least partly eaten up by travelling around to other supermarkets.

Anyway, I'd hate spending so much time and effort on food shopping.

I'm careful with my online shop, looking at what offers are available and if there's anything cheaper available on the retailers website. But, I'd never sustain going to 5 different shops - that's too much for me

Agreed - there are plenty of things to eat, so going without specific items is no real hardship if you plan around what you have, rather than what you're not prepared to pay for.

my mum is retired and has time to visit all the local supermarkets and enjoys getting a bargin - i will often see offers online and ask her to pick up stuff if she is going (store cupboard items and cleaning products) and then pay her back when i see her. occasionally sale stuff she knows we will use as well. a few years ago she gave us a few tins of biscuits that were clearence at 50p from £4 in january with 6 months best before on.

once or twice i have had a call at work that has been urgent and have left a customer in a state of panic, only to hear do you need such and such they are reduced to £x.xx here.

Just discovered amazon subscribe and save for loo rolls, washing powder, cat food and bread flour. DH grows veg in his greenhouse and we freeze in summer for the winter and buy meat in bulk from the local wholesaler and special offers from m & S so fir what we need - cleaning products, wine, beer - we look at the supplements that are pushed through the letterbox and go to the best value for money.
  • I assume most people live in places where public transport is poor and so car usage is the most efficient way to get around!

I live in London but temporarily stay in Nottingham but I still shop around!
  • I'm pretty lucky, my children are at the local high school and while it's only about 3 miles away I generally pick them up (they both do after school sports every night!) because the bus fare for two of them is more than it costs me in petrol:eek:.
Across the road from the school is a shopping centre with a huge Asd*, A!di, HB (which has just moved into massive new premises), Poundwor!d, 99p st*re, a "branded clearance" store, QVC outlet and a charity shop :D On top of that it also has a post office and plenty other stores including cheap clothes and card shops. Unfortunately it also has a couple of very nice cafes...

As I'm there most evenings it's easy just to nip into whichever one I need and pick things up. I just have to be very disciplined not to buy things I don't need. Savvy DD16 has told me that I shouldn't be buying anythin in Asd* unless it's YS because I should be doing all my shopping in A!di and HB :rotfl:

In my home town aldi and home bargains are next door to one another, in the next town aldi and asda are next to one another and b and m, Iceland and farmfoods are on the same street. Also in my town Iceland, farmfoods, b and m and morrisons are close, tesco is about a 3 min walk from aldi.

I tend to shop knowing more or less what I want from the shop im going to, tend to use aldi and home bargains the most. Morrison tends to be good for ys stuff mid afternoon.

I have tescos nearest to me and only buy on there what I can't buy in the other local shops

For me to go to a town where most of the supermarkets are is a 36 mile round trip so unless I have to go for other reasons, I don't bother

As an ex Londoner I do miss public transport and the variety of foodstuffs stocked in ALL the supermarkets within travelling distance

Now I live in a small town in a very small Provence I shop much more wisely using what's available and in season

I still buy spices and herbs when visiting England and stock up for the year

Extra petrol, fares, and/or shoe leather would outweigh the savings for me. And I value my time too much. OH gets coupons via Tesco club card, and stocks up when offers are on.
