Huge relief - can't quite believe it is all coming together. Of course it won't feel real until I have paid off that last card and loan but it really does feel like a new start.

    Hi Mizmir,

I've been away for too long, Been super busy crafting, trying to get extra money to hit the debt.

Fantastic news on hopefully solving your debt problems. Have you found a new house you like the look of, or are you waiting for an offer to come in before you look?.

You may have discussed this already, sorry. I only read back two pages :o

    hi Steph

We're going to rent as we have found a long term let on a house with a bit of land where I will hopefully be able to do some of my dog work and we will be able to have a few chickens and grow vegetables etc. It seems ideal and we'll have a bit left over after the debts are paid to invest so that if we did decide we wanted to buy, we would have a deposit. But for now the rented place seems perfect.

Nothing much to report - just checking in. Have had a lovely few days away staying with friends so very MSE - free accommodation, being cooked for and free theatre tickets as friend works on the production. So all it cost us was diesel plus a bunch of flowers and a nice bottle of wine. Can't say fairer than that.

Everything progressing on the sale of house. Just filling in the myriad forms needed. Then need to find removers - too much to do it ourselves but we get a relocation allowance which should cover it.

Excellent MSE break :T and great to hear all moving forward.

A good way to recharge the batteries with the excitement and stress of moving. Bet you can't wait to get firm dates on the house completion and your DFD! :D

Just a quick update to say there isn't a lot to update. Wheels of house selling seem to run slower than they used to - but all fine so far - just too slow for impatient me!

We actually move next week - need to get settled in before OH starts new job - so may potentially have one month paying rent and mortgage - so debt temporarily going up rather than down but needs must and we will cover it when we get the money from the sale.

New place is lovely and with space (and permission) for me to run my business and for us to grow veg and have a few chickens. Will be a relief to owe nothing to anyone and just be able o start saving and investing instead. Hopefully will happen by early September. :j
  • Hi Miz, just been catching up on your thread. Your plans sound wonderful.

I also just wanted to say we moved out to a rented house in the country when we sold our house and we had a week or two overlap which made the moving process a bit more relaxed.

We aren't really in a position to buy at the moment unless we used one of the govt schemes, but in all honesty there aren't many properties that beat our current beautiful location. Plus, I love it being able to call the estates manager rather than a contractor if any property maintenance needed :)

I know moving is stressful though, so hope all goes well and good luck!

Thanks so much for your message SS - your experience is very reassuring. We have had some concerns about getting off the property ladder especially as we now only have something like 15 years to retirement - leaving it too long will make a mortgage hard to get if we needed one.

BUT - the upside is being debt free for the first time in my adult life (and be able to save a little as well and have an emergency buffer to protect against ever getting into that position again). Being able to live in a property we could never afford with a bit of land is the icing on the cake. It is part of an estate so is probably as secure as renting gets and - like you say - being able to call the estate office rather than find the funds for repairs will be rather nice.

Once we are settled we will get some advice on investment to be able to make the best of the money we will have left over and what we'll be able to save over time, so that hopefully in the end we'll be able to buy our own place again when we retire. But in the meantime I just plan to enjoy this as a completely new start. :)
