Just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone that gives advice on this board. Not only has it saved me a huge amount off my shopping bill, but also you've all saved me from buying expensive cook books that I'd probably hardly use.
Every recipe I want seems to be on here somewhere :j
You guys have inspired me and given me the confidence to make fish pie, lasagne, soups, risotto, casseroles, HM burgers, HM pizzas, choc fudge pudding, flapjacks, and last night I impressed OH by using someone's "never fail yorkshire pud" recipe to make toad in the hole and 4 yorkshires for the freezer!
This weekend, I'm on the roast chicken attempt. My favourite meal and I've never actually cooked it myself!!
So thanks for the recent threads on roast chicken too
So cheers everyone... keep up the good work please :T :T :T
Edit: and I'm looking forward to the OS book too!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
I love this board too although I'm more of a lurker at the moment. I haven't been as adventurous as you but I have all the good intentions. Today I cleaned my kitchen (with Stardrops;) ) and tomorrow I'll be scrubbing the floor. It will be so much nicer in a clean kitchen;)100 Day Pot £13

Just wait till you read the threads on slow cookers and breadmakers!
I made my own jam last summer and now bake my own pizza bases, bread and rolls which i never thought I would be able to do.
DH has just been polishing off some of the pea and ham soup I made in the slow cooker overnight using a ham hock which was only £1.49 in the market!
Sausage casserole has just been put in the slow cooker for tea. It is cooking as I type and i do not have to keep checking it or stirring it.
I love being able to go out and come back to a home cooked meal!
(then tell family i have been slaving away lol !;) )"This site is addictive!"

Yes I would like a slow cooker and bread maker but think I'd have to convince the OH to get rid of his cappuccino/espresso maker to make some room in the kitchen for it!! Somehow I don't think that will work!!!
On the other hand, if someone gave them as a present, then I'd just have to find the room for them!!!
I've seen some of Mr Badexamples cooking threads, like the photo's that accompany them too!! The Sunday Roast cook off was actually what made me think that of course I could give roast chicken a go - but I only did roast potatoes in the end!!
I've just bought a large chicken (on offer too!!) and hope that the size won't mean OH wants to eat twice as much!! Hoping to get 1 roast for 4 of us, and then at least 2 meals for us two out of it. If it works out well then next month I'll think of paying twice the money for an organic/corn fed one as I know they taste better, but didn't want to risk it for my first try!working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Dear OSers,
I really need to write this: THANK YOU!
I was feeling despondent and bored while DH was watching 6 nations rugby *YAWN* so I thought we'd go for a Chinese meal for dinner (to relieve boredom ARGHHH bad reason to eat). Instead, bored as I was I went online and came to the forum - reading these threads, especially the recent Risotto recipe one and the one about being disappointed after going to a restaurant, I have decided to stay home and eat homemade food.
I am going to have spinach rice (the spinach from my garden and the rice from my regular bulk purchase), steamed carrots and perhaps a bit of fried tofu (both from organic veg box delivery) for protein, all much tastier, healthier and cheaper stuff by far!
This forum is just GREAT for motivation! :T
