Hope the cup of tea did the trick, DoshWaster.
Sadly not a channel that we have access to, but I'd watch any programme about drinking now if I could simply to reinforce the message. Other than soap operas pretty much every fictional drama normalises drinking booze, to such an extent that anyone having a mug of tea or coffee seems abnormal now. How we show women who have a stressful job? Pour a glass of wine as soon as they get home. Job done. It would take a brave scriptwriter/director nowadays who showed her putting the kettle on instead. Rare non-fictional programmes about the reality of what's happening out there now are a drop of commonsense in the ocean of booze.
How sad (and frightening) that a person intelligent enough to qualify as a nurse (and hopefully together enough to do her job well but that's another story) thinks that sinking half a litre of vodka is normal - and the only way that she has enough in common with other people to be able to be in their company.
Well done for making it through, Elusive Lucy. You're breaking a habit. It does get easier if you stick with it. Promise.
9/30 please, Shaggy.
Honey Bear, agree absolutely, though also think soaps now show alcohol as normal - at least going by EastEnders where people are either in the Queen Vic pub or drinking wine/spirits at home - having said that I haven't watched it since BBC Three went online but doubt that it has changed!
I have been thinking in addition to AFDs I might start setting myself a small number of "treat free days" a month and was wondering whether anyone on this thread would mind if I mentioned here whether I was having a "TFD" or not? ... Not expecting anyone other than myself to keep track of them or even pay any attention, but am noticing that on AFDs I tend to consume largeish amounts of chocolate and other snacks if they are around at work (eg yesterday ate a piece of cake, two small chocolate brownies, three chocolate biscuits and a few bits of dark chocolate, all at work - day before ate several small choc brownies, some caramel crispie things, some dark chocolate etc) - am basically hoping to control it a bit better. I'm sure sugar is associated with my alcohol intake over time, my previous favourite tipple, wine, being so sugary - don't want to substitute one for the other and let my AFDs turn into chocolate free-for-alls!0 -

No problem with you working on your treats cathy.
Interesting about the soaps. I used to find it difficult watching Holby City as they inevitably end up in the bar after work and I wanted to join in! On a similar vein, I'm surprised how many nurses are an unhealthy weight. I think they consume loads of sweets and chocolates probably grabbing something easy instead of taking a proper meal break and then there's the pitfall of rewarding ourselves with the wrong things.
I wonder when and why it became 'normal' to offer someone a glass of wine when they call round instead of a cup of tea?
Enjoy Britanny HB.:)0 -

You and me both DizzyCan not resist a choccy biccy at all. They do the rounds at work a lot, which doesn't help. Thanks Maman. I am thinking I will set a target of five days a month where I don't eat treats - starting low so it doesn't feel too painful!

Good morning everyone,
7 AFD please Shaggy
Thanks Arkers x0 -
Had 1.5 glasses of wine last night and didn't enjoy it possibly due to my cold. Wouldn't hv had any of my mum hadnt been round for dinner and she fancied a glass. She didn't want me to open a bottle just for her so I joined her. Will tip what's left down the sink. Feel I wasted an AFD.Live for the moment and plan for the future0

I have a sinking feeling I should be doing the No Treat Days thing, too. I'm trying to lay off the cheese and chocolate and yet found myself carefully making Nigella's Clementine cake a few days ago and deciding that because it has eggs in it, it would be appropriate for breakfast. May I join in?
10/30 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -
I would like to join too if that's ok. I have replaced booze with naughty stuff! My thoughts go along the line of: I cant have a drink so at least I can have something nice. I did loose some weight at one point but now I have put it all back plus some more.
Also I have noticed how people drink lovely big glasses of wine etc as the norm. That makes me want to join in. Not helpful.Do I really need it? Probably not.:A0
