Roll up, Roll up. A New Month, A New Challenge.SET YOUR26 days up for grabs!
Everyone Welcome!!!What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
3/25 for me please Shaggy. Rather than looking forward to a drink, I'm now starting to worry how badly I'm going to sleep or how grotty I will feel the next morning and that's putting me off (and keeping me on the wagon).
To anyone worried about posting - please remember we are all in the same boat, so can empathise and no-one judges xxx0 -
3/20 for tonight please. Last night could have gone either way so I ended up not posting.0

Now you've put it in my head, I'd like two smileys too. I'm not going to change my target but I'll do my best.:)
4 AFDs please Shaggy.0 -
Although this thread isn't judgemental in any way, there is an element of accountability.
The beauty of this thread is that it's a self-imposed accountability. I think that's why it works so well.Wanna_Bee_Free wrote: »I find that when I don't have AF days I feel embarrassed or awkward about posting and I know logically it ought to be ok for everyone to post and the more you post the more it helps me but somehow I seem to disappear at the first sign of the wagon disappearing into the distance. I guess when I'm not really getting anywhere with these af days I feel that I'm not a good example of the power of the thread accountability working. For me I will try not to disappear at the first sign of going off the rails.
I remember posting on one of the previous threads once, probably several years ago, meaning to post and then thinking I had nothing to post about because I was carrying on drinking. I rather regret that now because I never really gave cutting down a proper shot and it might have made the difference.
There are very few of us who post regularly who have given up completely, so it follows that most people on the thread do drink. The thread wouldn't work anywhere near as well if we were all keeping it AF!
I'd echo the Lurker shout out, but having said that - if lurking works for anyone who's doesn't feel the urge to post, wait until you do. It took me a long time to join and make my first post, months if not years, and it really is more fun for me but I know some people would rather stay silent. It seems I can't!
4/29 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -

I'm so glad you said that HB. I was attracted to the thread exactly because it wasn't just for those who wanted to give up. When I first joined I think there were posters who just couldn't understand that anyone who thought they were drinking too much didn't want to give up completely. Maybe it was just my perception but I don't think so. These days all are welcome and all have something to contribute.:)0 -
I think this is the link you need for the Phillip Seymour Hoffman programme on TV a couple of nights ago.

AlexLK, Maggiesoup1 has beat me to it! It is a series. Some fascinating autopsies and as a UK show not sensationalised like a U.S one <perhaps> could be. There has been one on George Best too. BTW anyone else read Callum Best autobiography about growing up with an alcoholic parent? A really great read and not a "poor me, poor me" type of theme to it. Heartbreakingly sad on both Father and sons part.
Definitely won't be drinking tonight. Have AA meeting although could happily skip it. #ungrateful #brat!!
4/29 AF
Big Love to anyone out there tonight who may struggle or falter! Glass of water/cup of tea or a brisk walk around the block may make a difference! Then there is always the clear head tomorrow to look forward to :-)

+1, please.
No desire to drink but my head is in a really bad place at the moment.
I've spent a while trying to articulate exactly why but cannot.maggiesoup1 wrote: »I think this is the link you need for the Phillip Seymour Hoffman programme on TV a couple of nights ago.

Thank you both.
I haven't read about George Best but I remember reading about a newsreader who ended up homeless because he was an alcoholic. IIRC his ex wife and (now adult) children didn't really forgive him. Stories like these do highlight the dangers of what seems pretty harmless to most.
Hope AA went well.2018 totals:
