Don't hesitate to let me know if I've made a mistake! What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

My wine devil is already trying to negotiate that Sunday isn't a Lenten day of fasting and abstinence. Ha, I'm not falling into that trap. It is true that if you count up 40 days from Ash Wednesday through to Easter, you don't include Sundays. But I've pledged to be AF until Easter, not AF for Lent.
Sorry for waffling, but I needed to show that wine devil that I knew what his game was.
I first heard about the Lenten Sundays thing on The Archers a few years ago and thought then it was a great excuse not to keep what I think is technically is supposed to be a fast. My trouble with it was that I don't remember the bible mentioning that Jesus trotted back into the town on Sundays to prop up the bar at his local and scoff Sunday lunch. I know you're right about the number of days but it's just easier for me to say 'I'm not ...' or 'I'm going to ...' for Lent.
Well done Wanna Bee Free!
CathyBird, post away! Hearing how other people cope, or struggle, is part of why I stay on the thread. I'd be like Philip Seymour Hoffman, I think, but without the heroin which has never interested me, just the booze. I honestly don't know if I could stop again, because I know that staying stopped is easier than going through a series of Day Ones.
I finally watched the Channel 5 documentary about alcohol the other night and it saddened me terribly to realise, at the end, that some of the contributors were still struggling with staying stopped.
You gotta love the raffle irony StupotStu!
3/29 please, Shaggy.Better is good enough.0 -

That made me snort with laughter HBWhat would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Thanks Maggiesoup1, Shaggydoo and Honey Bear - the thing is if I know I'm posting here it alters my feelings about alcohol and how much I might have - my consumption the past two days has been very low and in fact I could easily have just gone without again. Which is fabulous. I'm hoping it stays that way.0

Is it okay if I post here even on the days I'm not AF? ... It's a way of keeping in touch with the thread and my plan to restrain myself. I don't know if the fact that I'm saying I have had a drink is not good for people who are doing an AF day? ...
I think the strength of the thread is that we can all drop in whenever we want or need to Cathybird. It is all too easy for one day to become two and before you know it you've had 3 weeks without having a single day of being alcohol free and with that can come no contact with this thread. If we let go of "trying" then it is easy to become unravelled. I think this forum acts as a great "aide-memoire" to a problem drinker like myself.
Like MaggieSoup1, I watched the Philip Seymour Hoffman autopsy documentary last night and apart from the fact it made me want to snort coke after being clean for almost 15 years (I know, I'm a parents dream!!), it made me sit up and feel very uncomfortable about the fact that I can't be complacent about alcohol ever. I holiday later this month with Mr SPS, and was already justifying a few drinks in my head. 1 day at a time is all any of us can do.
Calling in for tonight 3/29 AF

I agree stu and there's definitely no limit on posting cathy.
Although this thread isn't judgemental in any way, there is an element of accountability. BUT, we all fall by the wayside from time to time and hiding away won't help at all. We need to jump back on that wagon ASAP.
3 AFDs please Shaggy.0 -
