Didn't get to target in May - had a few drinks that were unplanned towards the end of the month, but reporting in today with 1/240

1/9 please Shaggy. I've been so cold this evening that hot chocolate has proved more tempting than red wine.0

I couldn't have managed in the early days without the support from here. I wonder how much alcohol has not been drunk because of this thread - it must be tanker loads!
Amazing effort.
Did you try moderation or just go straight in for being alcohol free?0 -

Good luck Fru.
I try to take things a day at a time, so I don't need to get through the next 3 days without a drink, I just need to get through today without a drink. I'll tackle tomorrow tomorrow.0 -

It took me a long time to work out what I should do instead of having a drink to let off steam. If you find that 'thing', then it could be easier.0 -
Thank you gramme carter
Feel better this morning so hoping today will not be so angst as
yesterday
Have already decided tonight's dinner and plan on leaving the office at a sensible time and to be AF
Have a good day all

I find talk radio helps me get off to sleep too HB. I have one that can be set to turn itself off up to an hour in advance and I've usually nodded off before that. Unfortunately, DH tells me it's too complicated for him to set so if he can't sleep it goes on permanently and often wakes me up. I used to have a radio that I could set permanently to turn itself off after a time but couldn't find one of those.
In the early days of getting to sleep with the radio I had one of those that switched itself off after an hour and no earpieces. OH used to wake me up every night switching it off anyway! Earpieces are the way to go - OH is a convet and now uses 5 Live to lull him and that wouldn't work for me at all.

I'm at my lowest weight in about 6 years too (which is as about as long as I have been posting on this thread!)
Thank you Shaggy! Belle warns people that during the early days of going AF that trying to lose weight at the same time doesn't really help or work, but that it can come later. Over the past ten months I lost a bit more than I thought I would initially, then gained a bit for two months, then lost more - the graph is quite dramatic. I genuinely thought I ate pretty healthily before I stopped drinking so it came as a bit of a shock when I realised how many empty calories the booze had been providing.
I think just the discipline of being on this thread is helpful, so it's good to know it's working for you aswell, seeing as you are the one who keeps us on the straight and narrow.changing_ways wrote: »Not been here for a while, but this thread helped me so much when I decided that I had drunk my lifetime's quota of alcohol and needed to stop. I do so love it when people pop back in to share their success stories, so thank you for that Changing Ways. My empty tankers are now firmly parked in the scrapyard, too, and I couldn't have come this far without this thread either.
Hugs for you WanttobeSE. I hope that the assessment means that your son will get all the help that will make the difference he needs.
We went to see Barnum last night which was wonderful, really colourful, full of people doing amazing things and rather magical. I never saw the Michael Crawford version but OH did and says that this is even better. We've got two of the cast staying with us and totally co-incidentally one of our neighbours was there in the audience as well. The evening ended with six of us around the dining table, lots of different cheeses, fruit, bread, lovely biscuits, red wine, beer and a couple of bottles of my faithful B3ck4 B1u3. Those used to be real danger nights for me. I'd be the one egging everyone on to drink more so that I could too, and it was lovely to be able to enjoy the impromptu party without letting myself down and boring other people. I had a lovely chat with the Swiss chap, a physicist and ski-instructor who decided comparatively late in life to run off to join the circus. In the olden days I wouldn't have rememebered a word of his lifestory.Better is good enough.0
