I've now been given Thiamine and a Vitamin B strong compound from my Doctor. And I've been to my first alcohol education session run by the alcohol counselling service. It was way better than I thought it'd be. I'd imagined it would just be the same kind of info you get on leaflets in the doctors, usual units advice etc. But it was really good, very informative. The woman that ran the group has been in the business for years, and really understands the mindset of a problem drinker. We weren't spoken down to, it was just informal - if you want to speak you can, or you can just listen.

Hopefully the service can stay up and running. It's always been managed by the NHS, but has gone out to tender and is going to be run by a private company. So they're not sure how many people are going to be kept on, if they'll be moving premises etc. Fingers crossed....

Am having drinking and non-drinking days at the moment. First AFD was 2 wks ago tomorrow, and I've had 5 AFDs altogether in that time. Baby steps, but steps none-the-less.

Well done to everyone, a better future awaits us all :j

Posting early with tonights AFD so that is now 21 for January please shaggy.

For those 'sober' ones, how long before you really started to feel the benefits of being AF? Or maybe you didn't notice a huge difference.
Since I started being AF I've gad one illness after another and feel really weak and drained!

    Enjoy the evening!

A really good question that I have been pondering since I read it last night.

When I was drinking it was not unusual to stay up to the small hours and then get back up the next day and got work. As a single working Mum, I must of been shattered. But the merry go round of wake, work, drink repeat kept me going.

When I stopped drinking I realised how much abuse I had been giving my body....I was truly shattered. But I held faith that I had to stay with the exhaustion becasue it was the first time in years that I could actually hear what my body (and mind) had to say. Alcohol is a very effective deafener.

So yes, you probably will fell pants when you stop drinking. But it's nothing new. It just feels like it. For me all those bad feelings (Physical and mental) could be ignored with the help of a bottle or two. They were always there I just never 'heard' them.

That is the hardest thing about giving up. You will 'hear' some uncomfortabkle sounds coming from your body and you no longer habe a way to silence them.

You have to extract all the pain, again, physical and emotional, and cure it. This is definately a worse before it gets better scenario. That's why it's called recovery.

Or you can just carry on 'masking' it all with booze and take your chance that it will all be ok.

    Brilliant News.

Just before I got my cancer diagnosis I was due to start working as a volunteer counsellor for these guys....I think they are national but are more concentrated in some areas. Maybe of use to some......

Is it enough of an issue to warrant a call to the local Children's Services?

    Hahahahahahahaha.....

    Sorry. No offense meant.

My local child social services are not interested in kids who have been made pregnant by their own fathers.

They are 'known' to Social services but I won't hold my breath etc etc etc. It goes on in FAR more houses than one would like to contemplate. x

None taken. I know that most Children's Services are stretched to breaking point.

    Declaring 26/31 for tonight please.

Can I set February's target as 20 days please? I may manage more but not counting Sunday as AF as may have a glass of wine with a meal but no more. Monday - Thursday are definite AF as are weekends when I'm working.
