Afternoon :hello:

ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Oh no
Don't give up.....can you reduce by starting drinking later in the day?
This is good advice, I was certain I would nail loads of A/F nights come the new year. However I've struggled and had to reassess my situation.
Even if you can't manage an A/F night, cutting down maybe an easier step in the right direction.
It's a marathon, not a sprint.0 -
Good afternoon
As the words of that song resound in my head "I'm right back where I started from"
I didnt manage to stay off the wine last night. I just want to hide from the world at the moment and crawl into my shell (Im a cancerian):( Last night I even contemplated phoning in sick to work today so i could pull the duvet over my head (but I didnt)
I have absolutely everything to be grateful for but yet I have no motivation - now whats that all about :rotfl:
So rather than burying my head and not posting on here I thought I would share in a vain hope that I will shame myself into trying for an AF tonight - you lot are so inspirational - thank you for being there to read this...I can feel the support :j I am just so very tired that all rationale thinking is out the window and I know the only way to get more AF nights is to rest and get back into exercise and then focus on the tips provided on here to stay AF
So folks here's hoping I can manage it tonight
Have a fantastic weekend whatever you are getting up to :grouphug:** Stay Excellent, Stay AF **This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Alex - it happens to us all from time-to-time - I fully intended being AF last night but did not succeed (I was going to say failed but thought better of it). IIRC you were advised by your doctor to cut down, so any reduction in your alcohol consumption has got to be of some benefit. Don't try and over-stretch yourself (and your willpower) too much. Small steps can lead to great strides!

You are struggling aren't you 5-year- you did the right thing posting - we are here to listen (and hopefully help).
When you say you are 'tired' do you mean physically or mentally (or both)? If it is mainly physical then have you tried any of the natural/herbal supplements that can help you get a restful night? It is amazing how tiredness can affect all aspects of our lives - no wonder they used to use sleep-deprivation as a form of torture .
Wishing you all a good weekend and hugs to all those that are struggling at the moment0 -
Good luck with this evening 5-year plan, maybe it would help to plan your evening and get something nice in to drink which is AF?
I have been having to cut out alcohol for health reasons and have managed since Boxing Day to avoid it. DH still offers me a drink when he has one, even though I have asked him not to! We don't buy wine anymore as that is so tempting for me! I experiment with AF wines and also have sparkling water with ice and lemon in a wine glass, or lime cordial. I also have a hot drink after my evening meal. We all find it difficult to change our habits and every day is a new one in which to have another go
The other thing that really helps me is to make sure I eat a small meal about 4pm, not cake but a sandwich or cheese and oatcakes plus a hot drink. Sometimes I think the urge for a glass of wine with me is more to do with hunger and thirst.
Please excuse me barging in by the way but I was drawn to this thread as avoiding alcohol is still something I find very hard.0 -
I'm doing very badly at this.
Come on Alex! You're only 2 days behind me and I'm focusing on the days I've managed and feeling like a champion!
I'm already plotting in my head "excuses" to drink tonight!!
I will not be drinking tonight!
Tomorrow is an allowed drinking day as OH and I are going to say in a Boutique Hotel in London. As usual I have started to mentally add in days before and after to "extend" the holiday! This also applies to ski-ing trips or anything else to justify additional drinking!
With this in mind I am going to call early tonight that I won't be drinking as I couldn't go back on my word to you all! 6/19 AF nights!
Have a lovely weekend everyone and good luck to anyone that may struggle!
Alex you can do it!

Well I've been to the counselling service today that my GP recommended. It was just an initial interview, they take lots of details and get you registered. It was very involved, was in the interview for around 2hrs. Now I'm on a waiting list for a key worker, which should take 4-6 wks. They have lots of treatments and talk-sessions there (acupuncture, discussion groups etc) but he advised I don't take those up until I've seen the key worker. In the meantime I've to attend an alcohol education session for the next 5 wks, this is a condition of being registered with the service. I'm feeling quite positive, and was amazed how much detail he went into with me.
Had 3 AFDs Mon to Wed, but cracked last night, just felt way too tempted. But I din't have anywhere near as much as I normally would, probably around 6 units in total, and spread over the evening. I'd normally drink 6 units in the first hr - so all's not lost. Just got to keep ploughing on. Although as someone said earlier, I'm already making up excuses for having a drink tonight.0
