Happy to have you along, Jake2.

We went out last night to an event at which there was oodles and oodles of free booze. I just loved being able to say 'I picked the wrong year to give up booze.' (anyone else a fan of Airplane?) Anyhoo, OH went to the loo at one point and left me holding his glass of Merlot (which I used to love) and the aroma of it was just lovely. I could have had a cheeky slurp, but didn't, so I'm feeling rather chuffed with myself this morning. (I'd like to say 'proud of myself', but pride comes before a fall, so I won't.)

    18/30 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.
  • 19/30 please, Shaggy. It sometimes feels a bit lonely on this thread at the weekends.

you should be proud just going to a event is hard to stay off u did well
i can be round booze now be fine had couple social events not bothered
think the reason i do so well now is there no one to say u can have a drink u cant have a drink my late hubby controlled that a lot
so 1st thing i did when he died was go on huge bender no one to tell me to stop free to do as i pleased
then i decided i wasn't ready to die with him i did the journey alone
now i have pretty good life a lot happier but always hangs over me
u should be very proud i am proud of me even if i do fall again
    xxx

Up to 10 now, not including tonight- I might have a glass of wine with my meal tonight, might not.
    Trying to keep in budget.

  • Thanks, Jake2. Some months ago I stopped drinking on nights out when I wasn't that keen on some of the company. I regret to say that my reasoning was 'I'm not wasting a hangover on them.' It would be true to say I didn't particularly enjoy those evenings which was pretty much what I knew to expect in advance, but at least I had the whole of the next day to enjoy.

In hindsight, what that tells me is that although on many nights out I 'enjoyed' myself getting drunk, I wasted a lot of following days and occasionally, if I'm really honest, I didn't 'enjoy' all of them in the first place. Boring people, lets be honest, are boring whether one is drunk or sober.

I'm sure 'not wasting a hangover' is a bad sign, a sign of drinking too much, but the fact that I had been to about six parties/events sober when everyone else was pickled was great practice for not drinking now at all, and the bonus is, no-one - and I mean, absolutely no-one - questions my not drinking.
Very few people realise I've knocked it on the head completely, and it's been a gradual process telling close friends, when I choose.

    20/30 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.
