I weighed myself today, several times, and seem to have turned the juggernaut around, at long last after years of wanting to lose weight, and it has everything to do with knocking the drinking on the head. Thank you everyone who contributes to the thread, particularly you, Shaggy. How you find the time is a mystery to me, and much appreciated.
I finally realised that there is little point in trying to lose weight if I didn't know how to stabilize it first. That helped identify that it was the booze and the 4lbs I wanted to lose in June (and July when the June target failed), disappeared within six days. (Either that or the scales are kaput, but I weighed myself five times, and it was the same every time.)
That's excellent HB. My main reason for wanting to cut down has always been the empty calories. I'm ashamed to say that things like health and money saving came a poor second. Pure vanity!:o Having managed to cut down I then moved on to healthy eating with SW, lost 3,5 stone and three years later I'm still there!0 -
Maman, seriously? 3.5 stone? (Honey Bear doffs cap) *respect*Better is good enough.0

After a bit of a disastrous day yesterday (though not really my fault a customer brought a rather nice single malt along to his meeting with me and I couldn't really say "no"), I hope to redeem myself tonight.2018 totals:

Mortgage Overpayments £5,5000 -
I'm up to 6/21 including today (I'm declaring as I know I won't drink now). Up early tomorrow to come home for a weekend, so I can't imagine I will be AF for the next couple of nights.
I know exactly what you mean Chardonnay about the hangover and bringing down the mood the day after drinking too much. I can have a glass of wine, no problem, but more than 1 and I start feeling it the next day. Of course, alcohol is a depressant and there's all the physical tiredness to deals with too. I feel so much better when I do not drink, that's the basic truth of it...Trying to keep in budget.

5/20 AFDs and a good day today.
Had a couple of drinks with DH last night, and I didn't go mad. It felt like a "date" night as my mum spent a night in her own home with my sister staying there, giving DH and I an evening and today to ourselves. Mum has been staying with us for the last few weeks. Sister goes on holiday on Wednesday for 2 weeks, and I'm kinda scared that there's no-one to call on to be with mum. I've asked for a conference call with me, sis and our 2 brothers who aren't pulling their weight over mum's care. Mum's all of a sudden lost all confidence in caring for herself and has got significantly frailer. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
8/31 please Shaggy.
Does anyone have any views on alcohol-free wine? I really don't want to drink alcohol again, but occasionally I'd like the taste of the sourness of a glass of wine, and it's pizza night tonight. Is this a slippery slope or am I being realistic? And are there any quaffable AF red wines out there, or are they all absolutely vile? (I smoked for 30 years, so the tastebuds are shot, and was more of a slosher than a sipper anyway.)Better is good enough.0 -

Hi
I will join if that's ok- think a public decleration of intent can do no harm and may just encourage me to committ to a healthier routine a bit more.
I doubt I have had a night wothout alcohol, before last night, in the past 6-8 weeks. Every Sunday night I pledge to have a better routine and every Monday lunchtime I start idenifying the excuses!
Aiming for 12 alcohol free days for August and we will see how we go from there. Last night and tonight makes it:
2/12.

Try apple juice with soda water. Just play around with the quantities until you get it how you want it. This is an amazing substitute for wine!
Congratulating myself on a sober saturday! :j Planning a home day with no visits to shops tomorrow so I am hoping for 2 in a row...
1 more please Shaggy x0
