Great to see you back Shaggy and delighted that you enjoyed your holiday. I haven't been to Hossegor but know the area quite well. Had holidays north (around Mimizan in the Landes) and south of there around Biarritz/San Sebastian. My French holidays always seem to focus around the wine, food, sun and sightseeing (more or less in that order;)). Are you into surfing?

:wave:topgirl, good to have you back too.I find this thread immesnsely useful. It's a friendly, happy place and helps me keep the wine in proportion.

I finished July on 15 AFDs please Shaggy.

I could so easily have succumbed yesterday as my car is causing me all sorts of problems. Has been in for £725  electronic work this week. Picked it up yesterday, drove it home. Went to use it again later and it wouldn't start!!They're telling me, it was because they'd programmed the new unit to DH's keys and when I used mine it wouldn't accept them. How stupid is that!!! Does anyone have a car with only one key???? Why didn't they ask?? Hopefully it'll be back later today.

Thanks for setting my new target. I'm delighted with my July total so I'll be looking to beat it again.

So sad that your childhood led to your brother's death. Well done on realising that you need to tone it down, and you'll get lots of friendly support here.
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

    Thanks for your kind words.

We knew he wouldn't make old bones, but it was still a shock, you expect alcohol related deaths to be people in their fifties and sixties, not barely in their thirties.

I'm hoping to lose weight and improve the way I feel in general so cutting down on the booze is bound to help.

I don't want to STOP drinking, I quite like it :o but would like it to be strictly 1-2 nights per week and to decrease the volume too, I don't seem to know my limits.

Top girl, it's awful that a bad start in life should lead to someone dying so young - what a shame.

Welcome back shaggy! I have to confess to have lost track of my AFDs for July, but I definitely have at least 1 to add so I think I hit my low target.
For August I am going to set a target of 21, mainly because I want the orange smiley sticker and I am determined to stick with it.
    Trying to keep in budget.

  • Top Girl, so sorry to hear about your loss :(

I am aiming for an alcohol-free August, which will be slightly tricky as I have one 50th birthday party and one wedding. However, this is a good opportunity to prove that alcohol is not necessary for a good time! Goal is 31 alcohol free days.

Welcome back shaggy - sounds like you had a lovely holiday - thanks for updating the chart. Can I set my target for August at the usual 12 please?

Topgirl - so sorry to hear about your brother - that must have been very hard for you :(

Maman - well done for staying AF after your car troubles - not sure I would have done ;).

Definitely won't be AF over the weekend but will be very mindful of how much passes my lips - have a great weekend everyone :)

I have celebrated my six AF days with (well) over 1000 calories worth of sweeties and don't even feel a twinge of a sugar rush. Just goes to show how much sugar I've been imbibing in the vino for oooooooohh let's see, 20 years. And I'm going to top it tonight with fish and chips because (I am greedy and) not only did I do what I committed to, I also went to a wedding and didn't mind not drinking.

If I can do this as a way of life I will be mightily relieved because I was well on the way to becoming someone I didn't like who was going to come a serious cropper sooner or later.
    Better is good enough.
