The Giving Up/ Cutting Down alcohol support thread - number 13

Well, I'm back.
Been an up and down few months really.
My younger brother literally drank himself to death, passed away in April aged 31. He had a PROBLEM problem, we hadn't spoken for years due to his tendency to become violent and abusive when drunk. We had a horrific childhood and simply, he never developed the skills needed to be a functional adult.
I've aimed to tone it down a lot since then, with varying degrees of success and hope that this kind of 'diary' will be helpful. The last week was my birthday week and so all sense went out of the window. My one saving grace seems to be that I stick to fruit ciders and wine/sparkly drinks rather than going hardcore as my health MOTs come back fine.
However, time to get a grip on it.
August brings a barbecue, a cocktail night and two planned nights out on top of real life. So for practical purposes, I'll aim for 20/31 AF. AND at least three consecutive nights off per week.0 -
Morning :hello:
Back from my holidays and had a FANTASTIC time. I am now in Love with South West France! Mamam have you been to Hossegor? Wondering what it's like for the future?
No AFDs and sadly my scales were not STS this morning (since my lowest point) so "The Beach Diet 2015" starts today with my first night on the wagon!
Right - off to catch up.
ShaggyxWhat do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
Welcome home Shaggy. Glad you had a fab holiday. Can I set my target for 20 in August please? Not sure if it's realistic or not as got a few things planned but we'll see.0

Welcome back Shaggy, pleased you had a nice holiday!
So sorry to hear about your brother Top Girl, that must have been very traumatic for you all.
I'm finishing July on 18/20 so not bad....after a bad start I did claw it back a bit later in the month although disappointed I didn't reach my target. The fact I only drank on 13 days of the month isn't bad though I suppose!
Please can you put me down for 16/31 AFDs for August Shaggy. I have a few things on in August but have also given myself a couple of extra days to see if I can actually hit my target this month!0 -
How terribly, terribly sad, Top Girl to lose a brother so young and effectively, twice.
Good to hear you had a lovely holiday Shaggy. I'm wading my way through the thread from the first post and it's quite clear from all of your work that you were due a break! Lovely to hear you had a wonderful holiday.
I managed my six days AF in July and am thrilled to bits even though I don't get a 'thingy.' Just achieving it is enough and being able to post on here is bragging, really. Thank you all for listening. Highly motivating to see the August target up there, Shaggy, so thank you.Better is good enough.0
