Hi shaggy another one under the belt for me tonight so thats me at5AF for the month so far.......was quite tempted tonight as felt crappy and had stressful day at work all the usual triggers to set me off on having a few to make myself feel better- but just kept concentrating on how well I felt last Friday morning after 4 consecutive AF nights ........... My new mantra for the tough times "no-one ever wakes up the next morning and wishes they had been drinking but plenty wake up wishing they hadn't "

Sending willpower vibes to those struggling or just starting their journey.........

12/31 for me - tough night tonight was very tempted! just need to sleep and can't and I know a glass of vino or 3 would do the trick!!!! Resisted though and going to bed with my night time team in some hope that it will help!!!

I'm right at the start of this battle. Now that I know an average bottle of wine is 9/10 units, I've calculated I probably have around 90 units a week.

I'm going to see a Doctor this afternoon. Other than prescribing medication for assisted withdrawal if they think it's needed, do you know if there's anything else they can offer?

Thanks Fruball and Green Karen. I'm hoping to go cold turkey, like Fruball I think I'll be better doing all or nothing. If I find I can't do it that way then I'll have to look at cutting down. The doc asked me quite a lot of questions and I did answer them as honestly as I could. I'd had blood tests including liver function a couple of months ago for an unrelated issue and he said they came back fine, so he doesn't think any serious damage has already been done.

He didn't discuss medication at all. He gave me the phone number for the local alcohol counselling service, I rang them and they run a drop-in centre every morning so I'm going to go down and register with them.

First dry night in ages, but I've felt so upset and shaky today that I honestly couldn't have faced a drink. I bought some Valerian a few months ago and had one of those tonight, washed down with cups of tea.

    9 please, Shaggy, thanks

It was my birthday yesterday, but I managed without any wine because a) it was school night and b) I had had several large glasses on Sunday evening and on Friday night to celebrate birthday/commiserate/be able to put up with D?H, who is frankly being impossible at the moment  He works away during the week and is very stressed with work - but this work stress spilling over to home life and blaming me for everything, trying to upset the DD's, being really, really messy in the house, has been going on for 20+ years.

He has decided to stay away this next weekend and calm himself down. I don't know if this will help him, but I feel so free and happy about this. The next few months will decide whether we 'make or break' - pretty scary for me, it would be easier to stay together, but I don't know if I can stand his moods and behaviour any longer.

Anyway, enough about moi - I hope everybody is well and good luck for the rest of the week xxxxx

Sounds like you are having a bad time of it pricey - well done for staying off the wine last night :T. Hopefully next weekend will be better for you and it will give you (both) the breathing space you need ;).

I did manage my AF yesterday and am going for it again tonight - I am confident so I will declare very early and say that tonight will be 7/15 AFD's please Shaggy.

Have a good day all :)

    Helloooo you gorgeous people

Well!! I didnt do it :( my Amygdala was working overtime last night and all rationale thinking was out the window. A long day, the excitement of having the house back to myself again and enjoying a glass of wine in complete silence just took over :( soooo I popped into the local supermarket and purchased 2 'small' bottles of red wine (see they were £2 each or 2 for £3...so I just had to snatch the bargain :()

I really, really need to work on not drinking alone and thinking its a pleasure - any tips on how to re-programme my thoughts??!!

notechno - good luck - I occasionally use the herbal sleeping tabs and find them great but taste yukky :rotfl:

PriceySOS - My thoughts are with you. I was there 8 years ago after 23 years of marriage and although I dont advocate splitting, it was the best thing I did. Very tough but worth it for my sanity :)

    To everyone else :grouphug:

Shaggy im STILL on 8/31 AF - with 4 in a row non-AF

I am going to really try to break the cycle tonight :)

  • Shaggy, as of last night 5/15 for me, please.

Just like to say I have the utmost respect for those like PriceyOS, Judi and MrsRainman who are fighting big personal battles and are still trying to reduce their alcohol intakes!

I know that it's not just those whom I have mentioned who are having their struggles either, best of luck to you all!

Horrible isn't it? You think you're doing OK then something you associate with drinking occurs and BANG! you want a glass in your hand, and, if it's one of those times, it keeps happening.

I've just finshed a couple of novels set in Tudor times when no one (who could afford it) drank water, every few pages there was someone offering someone else a "cup of wine", arrrgh!

But, you are still fighting-the-good-fight with a good attitude - apparently, if you keep deflecting/saying no, the Amygdala will shut up...eventually.

Totally agree gwithbag. All I'm doing is reversing a greedy, lifestyle habit and I have every support from family and friends.... goes away to count blessings.

Exactly what I'd have posted sukey.

    Belated Happy Birthday pricey.

I'm going to call in early too. Tonight won't be as easy as last night as I'm at home so won't have ready distraction. But I'm confident so

    4 AFDs please Shaggy.
