What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

I'm right at the start of this battle. Now that I know an average bottle of wine is 9/10 units, I've calculated I probably have around 90 units a week.

I'm going to see a Doctor this afternoon. Other than prescribing medication for assisted withdrawal if they think it's needed, do you know if there's anything else they can offer?

notechno - Sometimes they prescribe diazepam to help with withdrawal symptoms or they might suggest that you cut down gradually. This was not an option for me as I just am unable. All or nothing. Be honest with them about your intake and talk to them about what is best for you. Good luck and well done for taking the brave step. I found my GP very understanding.

There may be a counselling service in your area so they might refer you there :)

Are you planning on giving up completely and going cold turkey, reducing gradually to give up completely or reducing to a more manageable level? Whichever way, there is a lot of help an advice here as we have a good mix of all types.

Whatever you do, keep reporting back and set a target of alcohol free days if you feel you would like to do that.

Good luck and well done for taking the first steps.

    7/26 for me please Shaggy:)

Didn't find it particulary easy over the weekend . So every time I heard the wine bells I took the dog for a walK. He had a 4 mile walk yesterday so that shows how much I wanted the wine :o The dogs now thinks all his birthdays have come at once as he has never had so many walks in his life :T:rotfl::rotfl:

    Good luck everyone

Still, taking my own advice; I've acknowledged, accepted and will try not to repeat! I notice that the more AFDs I have, the worse the hangovers when I don't: is that just me?

I've found that as I've cut down my tolerance has dropped so tend to stop sooner than I would have done previously otherwise I get a bit legless and/or fall asleep. Not a good look!

The only way I can really overindulge is if I start early and drink through the day but that only ever happens on holidays. Generally I'm a wine o'clock person.

P.S. I took the second bottle of wine back to Sainsbury's and told them it tasted like vinegar! Refund no problem and I didn't buy any more!:D Not planning another drink until Friday if poss.

I've been Money Tipped! Debt-free and Proud!
I am calling tonight as AF#8.
I am not going out to get any wine as the weather is awful, plus i dont even fancy a drink.

I am having problems sleeping at the moment. I normally sleep 10pm-7am, but cant fall asleep until at least midnight. Makes getting up at 7am really hard.

Poorly Top Boy last night and today, he seems all better now and has just demolished a huge pork dinner, but hasn't been well at all. Two lazy days with him are NOT going to help me get off to sleep before work tomorrow :(

    However, I've hit 13/31!
