I'm toying with the idea of trying a slowly cutting down plan since my success at total abstinence hasn't exactly been the best. It might take a few months to get down to a/f but at least each day will be a step in the right direction.
Again this is experimental I have no idea how successful it will be but if I can do it my confidence will surely grow over the weeks.
Sounds good. I count units as well as AFDs. In true MSE fashion I have spread sheet which now goes back to Oct 2009 in which I record my units. It helps me aim at government recommended units and also helps me see patterns in my drinking behaviour. I know other posters on here have used phone apps to record units, and I think some of them are free. I think Drinkaware do one?...What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -
When I'm just trying to drink less in a drinking evening I try to start as late as possible (keep pushing back by an hour say every evening - eventually you will be so near bedtime you can't be bothered with a drink!).
I also try to have water by my side as well as an alcoholic drink when I'm out. What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Thanks for the advice GWITHBAG and SHAGGYDOO . Some good tips there.
I started keeping a spread sheet on how much I was spending on drink last Jan to open my eyes on how much I'm spending. It's quite hard to look at to be honest, £6,862 gulp!
I'm a spreadsheet freak so I'll definitely start one to keep a record of my consumption in units. Then I'll know when it's going down and by how much.
I'll use pouring away idea, to some this may sound like madness but for me pouring it down the sink is better than down my neck.
Also the moving drinking later and later idea, that's a good one too. I know if I can get to 8pm it passes and I'm not bothered. It's just I rarely make it that far lol (you have to laugh).0 -
another 1af please shaggy
Loads of love to you all, feel so busy lately have a good weekend, remember today is a whole new day , you can start anew everyday once more! xxCompers challenge 27/70

Ok managed to stay AF yesterday more by luck than judgement
long day in town seeing DGD and EXOH trying to sort him out with DD.
With all the driving etc couldn't drink and was too tired when I got home so that 4/20 please Shaggy.
I wont be AF tonight as going out with DH for dinner and drinks but will not be too many.
Good luck to everyone over the weekend.

Definitely no getting shouted at on here!:)
I too have been "hiding" from the thread because of my lack of progress
I find it best to keep reading/posting regularly. I do a similar thing to you in that I buy in the amount of wine I plan to drink in a week. If I was stupid enough to drink it all on the first night then I definitely wouldn't buy any more. I could fall back on the sherry/spirits etc in the cupboard but I know I won't.new_year_new_start wrote: »I'm still only on 2 a/f this year Jo but I'm not allowing myself to see it as failure. I'm on a measly two as well. Promised myself I will do better next week.0 -
Thank you maman
11/31 please off to watch the rugby & football Im driving & working early in the morning. So by the time I get back it will be too late to start!! No way will I chance my licence, hate driving but living in the middle of no public transport land I cant risk being without the car.
Goodluck to all tonight & if your still posting on here you haven't failed. Love the thing about the mobile phone just repeated it to my friend whos been trying to give up the fags for the last 10yrs0 -
I don't know what's up with me. Didn't learn my lesson from earlier on in the week and had far too much to drink last night. No wonder I'm ill today. :mad:2018 totals:
