Keep at it Doshwaster and Alex. Will be interested to hear how you both get on tonight.

Well, back from the pub for my regular Friday evening "whinge about work" drinking session with friends, and for the first time ever I did it without several pints of beer. I could only cope with two Cokes though so I need to find another soft drink.

Even better I'm back home at a sensible time without being tempted to turn it into a all-night session and I've cooked proper dinner rather than a takeaway or frozen meal.

    So - I'm prepared to declare 10/31. :)
  • Well, get you! That's really well done. Have an unofficial, target met for tonight, YAY.

I'm sorry I keep wanting to call you dishwasher.

I hope things are working out for those battling tonight.
  • (((Hugs))) to 365 - what a horrible thing to have to go through, one very brave lady.

Jo - I'm an alcoholic, I gave up about 2 years ago - and fall down from time to time (the forever idiot). When I stopped drinking I felt like I couldn't move every evening - couldn't do anything because I was just fighting the urge to drink. If you can (and it can be difficult if you have children) get your pjs on and get into bed - it makes the trip to the shops a bit less desirable in this weather.

The difference it has made to my family (I have 6 children) is massive - words cannot describe how much better my life is without the drink. I'm a normal person now, no self hate, self pity, sending kids to bed so I can drink to my hearts content. When I was drinking one of my boys got in so much trouble at one point I thought he might go to prison. That one is now at University studying aerospace engineering :) and one of my other boys is at Uni too. When I was drinking I told myself everything was ok (it really wasn't) - children were just fine.
Life becomes so much better without the drink.

Mrs R - thankyou for posting, you are incredibly brave - I've often wondered how you are getting on.
My BF still drinks - not 27 bottles of wine a week (that's really going some) but 5 bottles of whisky a week, every week without fail. He would love to stop but just doesn't know how to - we've been reading about antabuse.
It's a tricky and complex one to beat. Good luck with your walk and keep posting.... (((hugs))) and to everyone who needs one.

Think this weekend is going to be hard but doing ok so far. Had a Mexican night which normally involves fajitas and amigos beers. Still had Mexican food but soft drinks only.

DS 20 is in the RAF and is doing Dryathlon too. He's posted a pic of him in the pub drinking J2Os and checking how we are doing with it here.

On the apple juice and soda again tonight and declaring 10/31
  • I think it's a bigger thing to do to come back on here and be honest.

5 bottles of whisky a week is

Hot chocolate, Jo, it seems to be the preferred beverage of this thread.

10/31 AFDs tonight. I don't know whether it's because I'm tired, but I'm absolutely freezing tonight, even with a scarf and a cardigan. I've just had a hot chocolate, and now I'm off to bed where it'll be warmer.

My usual Saturday morning parkrun is cancelled due to flooding. You can't see the handrails of a footbridge at around the halfway mark. The top of the handrails is about chest height, which gives an idea of how deep the water is. Thankfully, the lakes here are flood defences, so houses aren't at risk where I live.

If I can drag myself out of bed early (unlikely, I love my bed), I could go to Bedford's parkrun.

I'm toying with the idea of entering the Great North Run, which would mean lots of proper training. I did that run 8 years ago, in 3.15 hours, when I was much fitter (and younger - I'm in my high 50s).

It's a good job I'm not drinking, because I entered the GNR about 4 years ago whilst p*$$ed. I dropped out in the July, due to a back injury. This time, if I enter, I'll be making a sober commitment to serious training.

Hugs to everyone who's struggling. Mrs R I salute you. Your child's safety is paramount.

Maybe have an early night to limit the damage today. Draw a line and start again tomorrow.

What is it you drink? Mine is wine and I'm fooling myself into thinking I'm drinking wine by drinking apple juice and soda. Could you try something similar? Sorry if you've already tried this but just saying what seems to work for me
