I'm 9/31 so far but this is going to be the toughest weekend of the month. I did last weekend by sheer will power as being AF was a bit of a novelty but it's going to be a challenge to get through this weekend. However, if I can do it then I'm sure the rest of the month will be relatively plain sailing.

The purpose of this month is not to stop drinking permanently. I like to drink and I want to continue drinking. However, I do drink too much for my health and at times I can scare myself with the amount I'm capable of drinking in one session. This month is about proving to myself that I can have a normal social life without necessarily every event being a drinking occasion. I've never been much of a drinker at home but I need to learn to control how much I drink when out.

The other reason is take a break from alcohol is for my health. After 2 weeks of drinking every day over the holiday period, I just needed a break. It took 3-4 days for my body to settle down after NYE, but now I feel much better, lost a few pounds, I'm sleeping better and I'm eating better too.

I'm not really in the mood for going to the pub tonight but I haven't been out all week and the Friday post-work drinks is a standing engagement with friends. If I can get through that challenge then I'll be delighted to declare 10/31 later tonight.

    Hi everyone

Its great to read the posts - definitely keeps me focussed on being AF!!

I agree with the post about the younger generation drinking less. My 3 kids (and their friends) drink very little, maybe they got it out of their systems in Uni - but they certainly dont approve of the amount I drink - or should I say 'was drinking' :( and was one of the drivers for me cutting down :) Ive been consistently drinking since I was 15 :( and it's about time I got to grips with it

MrsR you are a brave woman and I really hope it works out for the best.

Jo - how are you doing? I hope you have got over your blip at the beginning of the week :)

Im also in the 50 club as well and loving it :rotfl:definitely dont feel it and hope I dont look it :)

I can clock up another AF last night :T hopefully another tonight but Im not going to tempt fate. I cant believe this is the 2nd time in 2 months I have got more than 2 days AF - thankyou everyone :grouphug:

    Shaggy 8/31 AF please :j:j:j

    Hi Everyone,

Just passing by. I too am finding it hard to get back into things after xmas.

I was so strict for most of last year and im annoyed with myself that after just 2 weeks i'm not succeeding with my AFrules. I too should be doing better than this by now. I am feeling slightly sod it most nights and its tempting to have a drink even though I don't go mad just a couple of units. But still.

Can't quite figure out how to get back to where I was.

I am on 7/22 and starting to think i'm not going to make it. I'm out tonight and contemplating a glass of wine. Its my dad's birthday meal and I don't often go out to eat. Arrghh this is doing my head in.
Maman, think we are sharing the same boat.:mad:

I meant to say, my DS is 21 and rarely drinks. When we spoke about it some time last year, he hadn't had a drink for 4 months  I was very impressed! He has drunk, and been very drunk but he just isn't interested most of the time. He didn't even have any booze with Christmas dinner.
