Wow this thread moves fast -
Hope you are doing ok and recovering well 365

Hugs to those whoo are struggling tonight. Jo don't be so hard on yourself - just put it behind you and start again tomorrow

I need to confess a blip last night - I don't even know why it happened but my night with friends was cancelled so it's not even like my friends were tempting me! I was just feeling so low with everything that is going on i just couldn't help pouring a little wine into my mineral water (stupidly I thought I was invincible and didn't throw out the opened bottle of wine left over from new year!). That little wine was followed by another and then I thought 'well I've blown it' so washed it down by a Jack Daniels!!! my DD1 came down while i was drinking the wine and water and I hid it from her! Which makes me feel even worse!!!!

Surprisingly I am ok today - I think hormones had a lot to do with yesterday cos I'm in a much better frame of mind today even though its Friday and I normally chilll with a glass of wine and watch junk on TV - tonight I have had sparking water and blackcurrent only!

    So I am declaring 9/31 AFD's

Well last night I drank as planned. Our friend had a good send off for his 3 month trip around the world...........although I did feel slightly hungover this morning. Did make me laugh though when he said he went for a wash before I got up, then pulled the door almost too, so as not to let the dog out. The door then shut and he was locked out of the house, so he had to go to the neighbours at 7.30 this morning and ask them for their spare key. I laughed a lot!!!

Been out tonight for a drink as I do on a Friday. My friend had photoshopped a picture of my Mum & Dad into 2 little pictures of their faces and put them in a locket that DH gave me for Christmas. Am happy with the result.... Now I can keep Mum & Dad both close to my heart. I miss them terribly.

365.....wishing you all the best and hoping you come through this difficult time as best you can ok x

Just to add.......my toxic friends were out tonight. The husband eventually spoke to me but the wife didn't. I have helped these people out so much in the past.

Her stepfather is dying of terminal cancer. I don't mean to judge, but when my Mum was in the last stages, I didn't drink at all as I knew I would have to be available at a moments notice.

Her stepdad is in the last stages and she and her husband seem to think it is ok to get so rat arsed that she needs to get a wheelbarrow home!

I'm now not caring what they think of me, cos I feel (and know) I'm better than them. From what I could hear tonight they were talking a whole load of b******s. I know that when both my parents died, I had a lot more respect for them than they have of their parents.

Sorry for being blunt, but better to say so on here, than to send them a personal message.

sometimes you have to get it off your chest Rachel!

Jo, somebody posted earlier with respect to slip ups 'if you drop your mobile phone, you don't then stamp all over it and trash it'.
I hope you've managed this with your sobriety and was able to stop and limit the damage.
Tomorrow (well, today now) is a new day, so you can start afresh and know that you haven't failed, just stumbled a little.
    Trying to keep in budget.

Just popped on to say I've failed and now a huge thanks to Crazymums' post. Xxx

I'm still only on 2 a/f this year Jo but I'm not allowing myself to see it as failure. We are 'work in progress'.

I'm toying with the idea of trying a slowly cutting down plan since my success at total abstinence hasn't exactly been the best. It might take a few months to get down to a/f but at least each day will be a step in the right direction.

Again this is experimental I have no idea how successful it will be but if I can do it my confidence will surely grow over the weeks.

    Morning :hello:

An AF Friday and I just had Chicken Tikka last night with some Bombay aloo - could have been worse....(first world problem, I know...)

Noticeably more daylight this morning...that makes me happy :)

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

NYNS - Going cold turkey can be a dangerous thing anyway, the problem with cutting down gradually is that you need a strategy for doing it. My experience was that I would think, "I'll only drink such and such tonight.", but if there was still some more left in the bottle, or the amount was enough to get me to the stage of "Whey hey, lets go to the offy and get some more!", I found myself failing.

The most effective thing I found, though I'm not saying it was foolproof, was to buy the maximum I thought I would normally drink and, at the beginning of the session, pour away however many glasses by which I wanted to reduce. I found the pouring away quite empowering, if a little expensive!

I too have been "hiding" from the thread because of my lack of progress, but I can, at least, declare 3/15 for last night, please Shaggy. I'm intending to be AF today as well.

I had some (good) news on Thursday, which I'm hoping will spur me on to a much greater number of AFDs, but am still ruminating on whether to mention it on the thread.

Good luck to all who are struggling and well done to those who've experienced successes. Am rooting for you all!
