Alex - What did you do in the evenings when you had your good month? Can you repeat that?

I forced myself not to have a drink, though I was pleased with myself for completing the challenge, I found that I was constantly craving a drink during the evenings.

Before starting to cut down I was quite a heavy drinker and would drink during the day, often starting at lunch. Wife used to be worried I'd develop a problem, to be honest at the time I didn't think people like me did develop alcohol problems.

At the moment (past couple of days) I've going through a "prove I can do it" phase, mainly because I embarrassed myself badly a couple of evenings ago. :o

    10/31 AFDs tonight :)
  • Keep at it Doshwaster and Alex. Will be interested to hear how you both get on tonight.

You're quietly pressing on Barney1979, well done.

I've just requested fish and chips tonight so not bothered about wine. Wish I'd tracked down some Becks blue though. Oh well, just have to sit on my hands.

Checking in with another AF night here, so thats 7 in total please shaggy.
I have got a humdinger of a cold, so I am once again in bed at 8 o'clock!

Fruball, I live in Switzerland, but I'm British. Here you can buy and consume wine and beer at 16, spirits at 18. I beleive it's the same for a lot of european countries. There's also a fairly lax attitude to cannabis in our city so there's a lot of temptation for folk.
    Trying to keep in budget.

I'm sure 365 won't mind me 'almost' copying her FB post, although I've removed some for the squeamish ;)

'Have some nerve damage on right arm/hand. Took more tissue out than first thought. On morphime pump which is managing pain. Very tired . All medics wonderful except one who I 'fired' . Haven't got out of bed yet. Gonna be a long old haul I think .'

Look forward to you posting again 365 xxx

    Morning All :D

I have a little bit of news from the Rainman household. Yesterday MrR went along to a Drug and Alcohol service we have in our town to get some help with his issues :)

    2 things prompted this;
1, He had an appointment at 10am Tuesday morning. He had the shakes so bad he had to have a glass of wine before he went to stop them  He knew this was unacceptable.
2., Late last year MrR was made redundant again. Being at home all day meant more time for drinking. I was working extra hours and I was getting concerned that I was leaving LittleR with someone who was under the influence. A couple of weeks before Christmas he was getting through 27 bottles of wine a week and thats when I made the choice to speak to a social worker at our local childrens centre.
She came round to speak to us, it's clear LittleR is well looked after and she had no concerns. However she made it clear that if an accident happened while MrR was in charge he would be at risk of being done for neglect.

A bit of a risky strategy for me to use, but I was getting desperate!!

So he had an initial assessment yesterday. They breathalyzed him, then promptly took his car key away! Full assessment next week.

This has been a long time coming. Hopefully things will start to get better.

    MrsR xx

You are an absolute inspiration for anyone living with someone with a drink problem.

To be brave enough to take the steps you have and still support Mr R all the way is incredible. Everyone should have a MrsRainman in their corner, it would make things a lot easier.

I really hope things work out for you all and Mr R can get this at least under control, if not knock it on the head completely.

You and LittleR deserve it xx

Me too, Top Boy has gone to contact and the off licence a couple of streets away is open until 11.

Just focusing on my dryathlon sponsors and what this means to me personally is getting me through, I've had my own problems with the big C and someone I love is really going through it with someone close to him at the moment so I'm having a hot chocolate and a chow mein and determined this will keep me on track.

    You can do this Jo.
