Good to read all the enthusiasm on here and welcome (or welcome back) to all posters.:)

Lots of discussion about Dry January in the media today. Caveats being expressed that while it's a great idea, it's not a good thing to go back to old ways in February and beyond. Many theories about how long it takes for a new habit to be established, especially drinking which is so widely accepted and encouraged.

The great thing about this thread is that it's an all the year round thing. So great if you only want to do dry January but if you want to cut down/give up long term then this is the place to be.:D

Good luck with it, Roland, and lovely to see you back. Research has shown that we are often more successful if we focus on one change at a time, so if you find your weight stays the same or you put on a pound or two while you're knocking the drinking on the head please don't be too downhearted. It does all fall into place but sometimes it takes a bit longer than we'd first anticipated to turn the juggernaut around - just slowing it down would be a great start, wouldn't it?

Wise words (as ever:)) from HB. I started posting on here roland as a precursor to losing weight. I knew that if I wanted to introduce a healthier eating plan then booze would have to be relegated to treat status rather than a daily occurrence. Having cut back drinking to mainly weekends and drinking less when I planned to drink (I found tolerance dropped) then I found it much easier to tackle my diet. I lost about 3.5 stone and I've kept it off for over five years.:j

First AFD of the year for me.

    1 AFD please Shaggy.
