Pleased to report I managed AF tonight.
4AFDs please Shaggy0 -
5/29 AFDs now.
DH had bought chocolates and sweetly started to share them and was quite taken aback when I declined (sainthood beckons).
I fell asleep whilst reading and woke up with a start just before I dropped the phone (I read my Kindle books on my phone). Now I'm wide awake again. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?0 -
Great night out with friends last night, along with planned drinking. I was congratulating myself on switching to water when we got back to ours and the party continued, until I realised I can't remember how we got home! Big black hole in my memory from leaving the show till dancing about at home0

Don't hesitate to let me know if I've made a mistake! What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.0 -

Haven't managed one AFD in ages and am ashamed with myself!!! Off on holibobs today till 28th so August isn't going to happen either!!! Shaggy can you leave my name on the roll please and I will definitely be back for the September challenge and will try to cut down, in fact as I am typing this I am thinking why not set alcohol low target for August?
Water during day, glass of wine with lunch, g&t early evening and glass of wine with dinner with lots of water in between. That might still sound a lot but could easily be much worse!!! Glad I came on here now this morning, just off to finish packing, new resolve!DF by Christmas 2014 #78 £18,964.15/£15,000

6/31 for me please Shaggy. I fear that if I had stashed some chilled white wine somewhere, I would've caved in the sunshine and poured myself a glass....but, I haven't got any  Ginger beer it was :j0

I follow a low GI diet during the day because I find it stops energy slumps. Carbs and sugar create high blood glucose levels followed by a sugar crash - which is what creates the "drained" feeling. I guess it's a bit like when you put out a cigarette out and straight awau the nicotine levels start to drop and you get withdrawal - same with sugar and carbs (and carbs are just sugar) - if you overload you get a spike and a crash.
It's really worked for me. Especially that energy low mid afternoon. I do allow myself sometimes carbs and sugar in the evening but mostly opt for low GI too.... I just look at sugar and carbs during the day and associate them with energy slumps and can easily resist them.
Cheese, eggs, milk, meat, veg, salad, all low GI - so you can still have a really tasty diet. Bread isn't too bad if you go for a brown variety but mostly I avoid it.
I'd always thought I had a pretty sugar-free diet until I realised that not eating biccies and cakes but swilling a bottle of wine a night was just displacing the soure of the sugar! And there's no doubt that stopping drinking produced a surge in my sugar consumption, so before I start cutting out carbs I think I'd like to try cutting out the replacement sugar and floury stuff generally. If that doesn't work (and it did last year) I'll try the low GI idea, so thank for that, Shaggy.
As for bread, this situation has been significantly worse since I bought a breadmaker some years ago, so I'd guess my consumption has gone up quite a bit because homemade really does taste better. Having said that, we're pretty focussed on wholemeal or 50/50 wholemeal and white flour, so I know it shouldn't be as 'bad' but it seems for me, it is.ElusiveLucy wrote: »Failure of the week award winner here.....I did so well last week with 5 consecutive AF days (Sun-Thur). Start off well on Monday then had a carp day at work Tue and had a couple of drinks. Didn't stop there though, oh no, I then went on to have a drink weds night and another couple last night, so m total for the month is still at 1/18.
We've got a family meal on sat night and I am seriously thinking of driving as it will stop me drinking. but I don't see them that often and they are normally pretty heavy drinking sessions, so in two minds at the moment.......
I hope the family meal went well and you did sterling service as the taxi. It's having the first one that makes the difference between success and not achieving the target; I honestly think the only time I'd be in danger of having a drink is if I'd had one or two already, if that makes sense!6/31 for me please Shaggy. Here's to stashes of ginger beer!

4/10 for me please Shaggy
Unusually for me I had an AF Saturday and I'm thinking about another booze-free day today too. Still searching for a good night's sleep but have enjoyed a nice walk just now and planning a trip to the swimming pool later, both of which should help.
Happy Sunday everyone.0 -

I had a bottle which is six months out of date so rather than just chuck it out I opened it yesterday to taste it and it's perfectly drinkable. A bit sweet for my taste but it'll do for a cold daytime drink with lots of ice.
So I opened it on the 4th, apparently, and then forgot about it after that post. Poured myself a glass this morning, and it was stilll a bit fizzy! Amazing.Better is good enough.0
