Wow Grassgirl! Just wow! Was there something in particular that made the difference? Huge congratulations and well done.

Morning all, 12/15 for me please - went on a long and boozy lunch yesterday with friends and am quite groggy today, looking forward to four whole days off.

Lunchtime drinking - such a fabby, naughty treat at the time and such a drained feeling later in the day! It used to knock me for six to such an extent that I stopped doing it as soon as I started going to the pub on Fridays when I worked in London 35 years ago. I couldn't believe how much it left me feeling totally wiped out later in the afternoon after just a couple. (No idea why I never realised just a couple in the evening would have the same profound effect, either, but as I was in bed rather than trying to work I suppose I thought those after effects were normal.)
Another 2 nights AF for this week (Sun/Mon) so I am up to 9/16 for Jul so far. My challenge is to get through to Friday still AF, so my battle with Wine Wednesday and Thirsty Tuesday and Thursday is about to begin....

Thank you to Honey Bear, Maman and Arkers for your responses to my previous post. My problem is that I enjoy drinking alcohol, I like the taste of certain drinks, I find it relaxing, I don't normally drink too much, but I am sure it must impact on my sleep/well-being the next day must be negative.

I am really struggling with the fact that I know what I need to do and I think drink is just part of a bigger picture - know I need to cut back, I know I need to exercise more etc, I just struggle with getting round to it. I won't go into details on here, but I am struggling with a number of things at the moment, not just cutting down the booze.

Unlike HB, I don't think there is a short trigger window for me, I struggle all evening with reaching to the fridge. I do drink at home, but we have so many bottles of wine in the garage that it will take me a long time to get through it all and I am NOT going to throw it out!!! I have had the willpower in the past, I just need to find it again.

I'm going to set my target for August at 18. An I am going to try my hardest to do it/get closer. In the meantime I want to get to 12 this month if I can, which means Tue/Wed/Thu AF and a string of 5 consecutive days

Bummer. I have to say I was extremely lucky that I stopped drinking when I did because it was a bad habit, but I wasn't addicted. A couple more years and I would have had that to cope with as well and I'm not entirely sure I would have conquered that as well, if I'm honest. And alcohol relaxes everyone which is why it feels so comforting to begin with, coupled with which I too loved red wine, G&T and Pimms, so I feel your pain.

You're doing brilliantly Elusive Lucy. It is tough breaking a long-standing habit and it takes a lot of willpower, especially if you're having to fight the good fight all evening, every evening which makes 9 so far a heck of an achievement. Please don't try to tackle any other longstanding issues until you can honestly say that you've confident you've broken one bad habit. You can deal with the other stuff when you're confident you've cracked one issue. It might feel as though it'll take a long time, but achieving anything worth doing does, until you look back on it and realise just how far you've come.

As for having the booze anyway - we had a huge amount of really good stuff we'd been stock-piling for years on our trips to Brittany. OH is stilll drinking his way through it, but even I'm shocked at how much there still is left. What is it about 'the good stuff' (china, linen, glasses, clothes, shoes, wine, whisky) that we can't bring ourselves to use unless it's a special occasion? I've just been down there to count how many bottles he's got - 40! (And that's just the wine.) In the olden days we'd have sunk that lot in less than a month, but it'll take him closer to three months and that's if we don't go out at all. I'd never advocate tipping it down the sink but take your time over your stash. It's not as if it'll go off, is it?

Keep on keeping on, EL and you'll get there. Good luck with the five day run. We're all rooting for you.

    27/31 please, Shaggy.
    Better is good enough.

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Morning all :hello: Week two of the school holidays has begun and I'm soooo tired

I haven't been drinking since I last posted, but can't seem to find when that was, so I've lost count. It's not been a great month as my resolve cracked on several occasions, but, when it did I only had one glass. That meant bottles of wine lasted three days+ and I could use some for cooking too. This is massive for me.

Not craving so much sweet stuff anymore, so think it's time I tackled the tummy...

I'd like an AF August please Shaggy, so 31 as my target please.

Honey Bear - huge congratulations on your second anniversary. You must feel great :T

Hugs and support to all in need xxx

Your last post was #10788 on the 20th July - so I make that 7 more not including today.
