and yet again you're failing to read what is written (are you sure you understand the material and have read it all?). I stated that people are either clever or work hard to obtain the grades. Now that still leaves the possibility for people not to have worked to hard at college (started to drink and drive - although hopefully not together) and have worked harder at Uni? Also people plato - they can understand stuff to a certain level and not beyond. There are people with better GCSE's than me but not as good a degree.
ie Albert Einstein was classed as a dunce at school as he was so slow to do his work yet his thinking far outstripped anyone on this forum.0 -
I reckon there are three reasons as to why people don't get a 2:1 or above.
1) They don't work hard enough.
2) The uni screws up somehow.
3) They're just not smart enough.
I guess the ratio 1:2:3 is something along the lines of 8:1:1, something like that.
For what it's worth, though, I count myself amongst the second for getting my 2:2...the course was on trial and was subsequently cancelled for being too hard (I got 57 avg and was the highest scorer out of everyone that took it).
I didn't, however, cry about it. I just took a masters in a subject I knew I could do well in and got a merit. You just have to roll with the punches.
I don't think it's reasonable to blame the uni for your problems, SP...people have problems, yes, but people also resit...if you've had problems, resit, or accept the grade you're given...0 -
The thing I just dont understand is how people can go to university and spend 90% of thei time having fun and being drunk and can still get good marks and yet I have had nothing but grafting and bein unhappiness and I just don't get anything. It seems in a way so grossly unfair.:beer:0

You're not aware that degree study is a completely different animal to A levels and tests/develops different skills? That may be where you've been going wrong.0 -

I do understand that but what is the true measure of intelligence GCSEs, degrees or PhDs, it seems very hard to say which is the best scale of intelligence.:beer:0 -

Well there is the possibility that they are cleverer than you and also that they use their 10% time more productively than moaning on here or at Professors. Revising for exams is an art and if you get it right you can, with little prior knowledge, learn a course in 2 days well enough to get a mid-high 2:1.0 -

If Phil works hard and fully grasps the material then he will get a decent grade. Else he'll get a 2:2!
or could be implies ?
If Phil works and fully grasps the material implies Phil will get a good grade
You're probably right about the first one. I'm not sure about an if implies though.
My logic was all in computing/mathsy ways. Hence lots of random symbols.
WORK ^ INTELLIGENCE => HIGH MARKS
WORK v INTELLIGENCE => PRETTY AVERAGE MARKS
¬(WORK v INTELLIGENCE) => FAIL0 -

I admire people with disabilities who, with or without help to overcome the physical constraints of their problems, make it in the real world.
However if someone is not capable of doing a job or a gaining a qualification they should not get it just because they are disabled (or a woman or gay or whatever). By the same token if they are capable they should not be discounted for those reasons. ( Hope that makes sense it's hard to explain this in writing)
I suffer physical pain most days but I don't get my sales figures upgraded so I get my bonus if I don't hit my target . What I do get and appreciate is the understanding of my colleagues if I am having an off day and I and sometimes they have to work around how I am feeling.
It may sound harsh but most people have circumstances that are less than ideal but they get on with it and make a sucess of their life, whinging into a keyboard isn't going to help SP.
Okay, I suppose it is really that you can not really understand what it is like to live with the problems of others unless you could somehow live a day in their life.
Sadly our world now judges you a drunk, stupid, a waster if you don't have a first and it seems unable to see past that slander to the real nature of people's lives.:beer:0 -

SP you have just hit the nail on the head, life is not fair, get over it and do something to make your life fantastic:T0 -
Wow its gone up to a first now to not be seen as a drunk?
tr3mor I was under the impression
x=>y is the same as ¬xvy so
If Phil works and fully grasps the material implies Phil will get a good grade
would be
(Phil works ^ fully grasps material) => good grade
=
¬(Phil works ^ fully grasps material) v good grade0
