is my employer being unreasonable?

Ive been told there are no pay rises on the immediate horizon.

However ive also been told that when there is a pay rise not everyone will get one - just those on the lowest wages

Without knowing how my wages compare to others, then I dont know if I will get a pay rise when there is a pay rise

So ive asked hr if I would qualify for a pay rise and they have refused to answer saying its hypothetical since there are no pay rises in the pipeline.

Is it fair to keep me in the dark like this? im in a position where I dont know whether it is worth asking for a pay rise later in the year, because even if they agreed I might not benefit

I could end up fighting for a pay rise for someone else

Thanks

A lot of people don't get a payrise every year, many people would even say you're lucky to be in a job.

Im not aure what advice youre looking for. No one has a crystal ball and can say if you will get a raise or not.if you're not happy with your wage look for another one with a better one.

sad to say but pay raises are not a right, all you are doing is !!!!ing off your employer, they have told you there are no pay raises in the near future and if there are it will be to the lowest paid.

All you can do is, if you do not already know, try and find out if you are on the lowest pay rate, if you are, then you will at least know a price raise may come soon, if not, then either look for another job or just be happy with what you have.

Keep asking tho is not doing you any favours.
  • You legally have no "right" to a pay rise and remember that if you haven't been there for 2 years they can dismiss you for pretty much any reason bar reasons related to protected characteristics e.g sex, age.

They haven't kept you in the dark ..you have been told there are no pay rises in the pipeline.

To be fair, I don't think I am p!!!ing them off as much as they are p!!!ing me off

:rotfl: I think you may be right, I understand how you feel but employers have all the cards these days.

As I advised, if you're not happy, start looking for something else.

Thanks. ive been here over two years

I feel like I am being kept in the dark because even though there are no pay rises in the pipeline I dont know whether to ask for a pay rise in a few months since someone else could be the beneficiary if they agree to my request for a pay rise

So they could agree to my request for a pay rise but give it to someone else

That seems a strange position to be in

Although the only way im ever going to get a pay rise is if those below catch up, so it is in my interests to ask for a pay rise for them

You're over thinking things here. If your logic is correct then someone has a crystal ball, and you're intending on using this "insider knowledge" (that even your employer isnt aware of, apparently!), to get one step ahead of your bosses to make sure that you get the first dibs on a payrise. With all respect, you're being ridiculous. Who even told you this theory about only the lowest paid getting raises? Even if it is correct and more than gossip, I don't think your plan will over rule company policy.

If you want to ask for a payrise ask for one. If you get it, great. If you don't move on and get over it.
