Thanks AR, yes I realise there are lots of unscrupulous people out there, however I have been with Vodafone for over ten years and they did there very best to ignore/refuse palm me off for over 3 weeks, not the customer service I expect when I have taken a 2 year contract on a phone that lasts 13 months! One thing I have learnt through this is customer loyalty stands for nothing0

My Iphone 4s wi-fi greyed out yesterday. My phone is out of warranty and I really didn't see why I should have to pay to have a problem fixed that Apple know about, so it is clearly not my fault. Anyway after looking online, I found the following solution, which worked.
Yes I know it sounds dubious and I didn't expect it to work either, but it did for me.
Sorry I tried to post a link but it wouldn't let me, so I'll copy and past the post from the Apple discussion thread.

Don't waste your time!!!
And your money!!!
You can fix it and trust me all apple will say is o replace it....
I know this might sound crazy, but trust me and just try it! There is no harm!
1) prepare a blow dryer and have your phone with you...
2) Blowdry you phone on and off (10sec on and 2 sec off) since you don't want to distort your phone...
3)Blowdry till your phone says the temperature is too hot so you can't do anything unless a emergency call
4)once cooled down it may be already connected to wifi, but if not restart your phone

By the way, I don't see how companies can claim that this isn't a problem with the hardware, as it has been going on long before IOS7. There is even a suggested fix for it on the official Apple website, so they are clearly aware of the problem, but aren't doing anything about it.0

I have had the exact same problem, when I took my phone to the "Genius Bar" they acted like this was a one off problem and sent me back to Orange, who have denied responsibility from day one. I now have two multi national company claiming the other company should pay for replacement neither seem to want a repeat customer. I am still unsure who I should deal with because Orange are the providers of the goods whilst Apple pushed the software. Can someone please clarify who holds responsibility? I should point out that I have emailed both exec offices in an attempt to resolve my issue.0

Responsibility always goes back to the retailer, so in this case Orange or the retailer if you used a 3rd party (such as Carphone Warehouse or P4U)
.
IN many industries the manufacturer will offer service (as Apple, Samsung, Nokia and so on) And its often faster to go direct, but any responsibility for the performance (or not) of any goods goes back to the retailer.0 -
Hi gjchester, thanks for your advice, I think the clarity of the issue of who is responsible is the issue, I seem to have dealt with many poorly informed advisors on both sides.
I've just pushed orange and I think my persistence has paid off as a replacement phone is on its way out, it possible that the organizations involved are trying to ignore the issue in the hope that people just except the fault and wait to upgrade. Researching the issue has helped me construct the argument, this is a hardware fault caused by software which puts too much pressure on the tech. It is an issue for the retailer. Orange/Vodafone/3 are retailers as much as they would like to play the network provider card. Orange thankfully have finally come good!0 -
I have been battling EE with the same problem for the last few weeks. The wifi stopped working 2 days after the 1 year warranty expired. I am on 24 month contract.
Today I received a letter from EE following my recent letter to them quoting the Sale of Goods Act, the EU directive and various pieces of this thread.
They state that due to the following 2 reasons, they will not repair or provide a replacement for free.
* If a customer has had the phone for over 12 months, it is the customer`s responsibility to prove to EE that the fault is inherent from point of manufacture
* A letter from a manufacturer- such as Apple Genius Bar is NOT sufficient to prove to EE that the fault is inherent.
In my case, the fault appears to have occurred following the IOS 7 update, also, if EE will not accept evidence of such from the manufacturer, how can the consumer prove the fault exists?
Any help appreciated with this. Thanks.0 -

I am also experiening the same problem. Having contacted vodaphone today and received poor customer service and having a three way conversation with Apple, I have been advised to take to a vodaphone store who will send away for a repair and it will either be free or chargeble.
On taking the phone to store I have been told the cost could be £150 and I had to agree to this to be able to send the phone off. Had I known this, and that the this is a known problem I would have fought my case further.
I am already in touch with Which and Watchdog about this matter and think everyone else should as this is seriously a problem.
Why should we through no fault of our own have to end up spending money to replace or have a phone that is no use.
I have read on the vodaphone forum after leaving my phone with the store that they are repairing phones under the 2 year warranty but they never mentioned to me earlier today.
Come on vodaphone sort yourself out as you will be losing custom from me and I have three phones with yourself.
Could anyone provide me with an update as to how they have got on as I am not happy as through no fault of my own I will have a useless phone.0
