Good career options for people without degrees

I left school at 16 with 10 GCSEs and haven't returned to education since then. What good career options are available to people like me without degrees?

What do you want to do? In the grand scheme a small minority of careers near degrees.

I am not really sure what I'd like to do for a career. I've held administrative positions within the public sector, but it's not something I'd like to develop a career in.
  • what non-degree related skills do you have?

Careers with better career progression and/or better salaries generally require specialist skills (whether developed through third level education, further education, apprenticeship, or experience).

What are you/are you not interested in doing?

It's never too late to learn new tricks. A degree it only useful if you know what you want to do in life (Vet, Doctor, physicist, Engineer etc.) Those are the only people I know who actually use their degrees.

What do you want out of life / job? There are plenty of interesting and well paid jobs that do not need degrees. Although advancement normally requires some form of further qualifications and experience.

I pretty much fell in to a decent company that pays for tuition fees for employees to pursue knowledge and qualification that is relevant to their profession.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work? What are your hobbies and interests, how do you pass time?

What have you been doing since school?

If you've got 12 years of solid experience in a specific field, you may not need a degree.

Experience and life skills often own book skills with no experience.
