sax11 my Dad took reactions to patches and lozengers, he now has an electronic cigarette but I don't know how good they are health wise, although there are different kinds.
Debbie
Supposedly, after seeing the stop smoking nurse yesterday, the electronic ones are just as bad if you are on champix as they are still loaded with nicotine which counteracts the drug. So if you do go on them get the 0mg ones. I do have one but i've always used it with and not instead of.
Saying that my CO reading was down to 11 from 28 2 weeks ago so seems to be going in the right direction0 -
I had tried using mints as a kind of replacement... Just incase anyone had thought of this..... Don't because after going to the dentist this morning I know need £400 worth of work on my teeth!!

Well I caved in yesterday at teatime and had a cigarette. It was horrible, I regret doing it as I had lasted longer than previous attempts.
On the upside I am not going to just give up trying and will keep going. So my new start date has moved to yesterday.
Sax11 that is good news about your CO reading, keep going.
Thanks for that Laura I think fillings are holding my back teeth together so will avoid the mints. That is some amount of money to have to pay for the dentist, hopefully you will recuperate some of the money from stopping smoking

Don't worry debs2009 I have caved every other time that I've tried to quit smoking, but in a way it helps because now you know it isn't worth it and it doesn't taste nice anyway!
Don't feel bad about it....!
In two months of non smoking them fillings are paid for! And it's for something positive not to waste on slowly killing myself! Read the Allen Carr book about stopping smoking.... Easy way it's called, it's helping me at the moment!Total debt to pay: £14,071.41/ Remaining debt: £12,884.12: Amount Paid: £1,187.29

Thanks Laura I just downloaded the book to my kindle it was nearly half price so I am quite pleased.
I've made it passed dinner time tonight and I know that will be me now for the rest of the night.
Thank you for your encouragement

One cave in debs shouldn't matter - i've been having the odd few but my cravings have gone, now it's just the habit part that needs to go.
You said yoou had one at dinner time - is that a usual time to have one?0 -
I was at the chemist today and my CO was 1 really pleased with this.
Sax11, I used to have 2 cigarettes before I left for work at 8.30am then 10 plus from 4pm till I went to bed. I never smoked during work and it didn't seem to bother me to go without during this time. I always had one after my dinner and this is the time I am struggling with the most.
I know I am still getting some nicotine with the patches which I think is helping or I am sure I would be climbing the walls
I hope to cut down on these soon although I take it off at night before going to my bed.

Have you managed to stay off the ciggies after dinner? I see you smoking is more habit at certain times, a bit like myself. Supposedly you should do other things but it's not that simple.
I'm going to have to get off these champix - can't be dealing with headaches all day and feeling sick.- think hypnotherapy is the next shot.0 -
I gave up smoking 7 years ago and still find it difficult. The one after dinner was always hard and I found doing the dishes straight after helped - by the time I'd finished, the craving had subsided.
I do admit though that I do have the occasional cig, especially when out with people who smoke, so I have now bought one of these electronic cigarettes and they do work. The best thing is I don't stink afterwards!0 -
According to the book the Allen Carr one..... If in your mind you feel like you are missing out by not smoking, and envy people that are still smoking this is one of the main issues with starting again!
From what I can make out, you need to be at a point where you realise that you aren't missing out on anything, which is true by quitting smoking you aren't!
I'm not taking my champix anymore, they make me feel terrible. I've completed a week tomorrow of not smoking and I have no desire to have one what so ever! We shall see how it goes, but it feels so nice to not have to panic and run to the shTotal debt to pay: £14,071.41/ Remaining debt: £12,884.12: Amount Paid: £1,187.29
