I really just tried to remind myself that having one wouldn't actually solve the problem .... and that really once the first few days are over it's the habit rather than the need (as all the nasty stuff goes out your body pretty quickly) ...... and I wouldn't feel any better once I'd had it as I'd then be p#d off that I'd had one!

Thank you! That seems to be where I stumble, the I will just have one and never have one again.....! Which always turns into smokingn full time... 20 a day again!
I think if I can get to the point where I haven't smoked any at all for 6 months that will be it for me... It's just proving to myself as well as everyone else that I can actually do it.

I have quit so many times and failed, that now everyone thinks ... Laura's trying to quit again but she won't, and now I want to prove all of them wrong aswell as myself

    Thanks for all the support!

Sax11 how long have you been on the tablets?

Been on them about 4 weeks now, had tried zyban years ago, they sort of worked but i caved in
Patches i have a rash with, lozenges almost killed me as they swelled my throat, microtabs made me sick - either destined never to stop or ill be a guinea pig for something new :D
Still trying though. Biggest waste of money and only regret i've ever had was starting.

Thanks viv0147 I will have a look at that anything that will help is worth taking the time to look at!

Sax11 - sounds like you had an awful time trying all them things, you seem to be getting on ok with the champix in terms of not having a reaction? I do think there needs to be a big amount of will power because even taking the champix I still managed to cave in before and smoke again, but deep down I don't think I was ready to quit back then!

I agree I wish I had never started I hate to think how much money I have wasted in all of the years I have been smoking. :(

One of the girls I work with said to me the other week ...."I'm ashamed to admit it but I really didn't think you'd ever manage to stop"

So - if I can do it - so can you!

There were a couple of times when I was really worried - 1st was when by best pal came to stay in the summer as she smokes & I don't think there's ever been a time when we've not and the 2nd was when I had a really, really horrid personal situation to towards the end of last year ......

I got through both :)- the 2nd was awful and I really, really nearly had one BUT kept reminding myself that it wouldn't make the awful thing go away or solve it .....

Thanks rising from the ashes! In some way it almost makes me more determined this time around to prove every one of them wrong! Most importantly I owe it to myself.

I'm focusing on other things, eating healthy, going to the gym and debt busting! All of this should keep me focused! The weekend will be a tough one... My OH's mum smokes and we usual stand out and have one together but I won't be doing that anymore! Occasions like that will be weird but I know I can get through it! X

  • Ahh everyone is doing brilliantly - keep strong!

Although you're all using your own methods I want to throw the Allan Carr Easyway method at you too - no i'm not being sponsered, but it's how i quit! And the best thing about it is it DOES make it easy! Seriously, i will wax lyrical about it :) And it's like a fiver for the book, comparatively cheap!

    Hi

Thank you everyone for posting I don't feel so alone in here.

It's good to hear from people on the same boat and also the words of encouragement from people who have stopped.

Rising from the ashes - Today I found it hard after my dinner as I would usually have a cigarette, I got through it JUST.

Some times I think this is getting easier as the days are going on then I have a moment like that.

AnnaMonkey I had Allan carr's book before and gave it alone of to friends, what I can remember of it was good. I am thinking of getting another copy thank you for reminding me.

viv0147 thank you for the link I will have a look I will try anything to help as I feel determined.

sax11 my Dad took reactions to patches and lozengers, he now has an electronic cigarette but I don't know how good they are health wise, although there are different kinds.

I have the allen Carr easy way for women to stop smoking without gaining weight, just started it again as I though It would help me through these early stages and so far so good :)

It's worth reading, anything to help put me off these cigs permanently!

Seems to be going ok so far, although debs2009 I also struggle a lot around dinner time also! I find doing something .... Reading, tidying something...: anything straight after dinner stops me thinking of it!
